Wide World of Porn- Porn Bloggers.
It seems that the porn industry has caught on to blogging. Those in the porn industry – the stars, writers (who knew), gossip columnists, producers, etc., are turning to the web to document and expose, if you will, their industry.
As any porn connoisseur knows, the San Fernando Valley area of California is the porn capitol of the world. It is from there that these “porn bloggers” wish to give people the flavor of what it is actually like to live and work in the sex movie business. At the same time they seek to move the porn movie business from being considered a sleazy backwater industry toward more mainstream respectability.
Wired News reports that the desire on the part of the “porn bloggers” is to be able to give the industry and those who work in it a voice.
The porn movie industry is certainly unique in one respect. Never has there been a form of entertainment more widely vilified that enjoys, at the same time, such unparalleled economic success. Americans spend approximately $10 billion a year on various forms of adult entertainment. Recent reports by CBS News and PBS Frontline detail how porn has entered the American business mainstream.
The porn industry bloggers are taking a page from the political blogger’s playbook. By using blogs they seek to provide a more true to life portrait of their industry, dispelling popular myths along the way.
“There’s this image that being a male porn star is glamorous, that you get to have sex with all the women you ever wanted,” said Luc Parry, a 32-year-old law school dropout from Boston who has been chronicling his recent career turn as a male porn star on Diary of a Porn Star.
As Parry (a stage name) writes on his blog, the reality can be different. From female co-stars who give him the cold shoulder and fall asleep on-set, to Herculean struggles to maintain an erection for hours at a time while being denied lunch, Parry’s portrayal of the porn star life is anything but glamorous. “Still want to do porn?” he asks in one post.
Wow! No lunch. That sounds brutal.
The porn industry, over the last three decades, has seemingly garnered widespread public acceptance. From its annual Las Vegas convention, where fans stand in line to have their picture taken with their favorite actor or actress, to the porn star interviews in the mainstream media – porn is obviously here to stay.
Industry stars like Jenna Jameson and Savanna Samson are savvy businesswomen keen to maximize their commercial potential and ventures.
Porn blogging is a natural outgrowth of the aforementioned public acceptance of the adult entertainment industry. After all, if an entire network television show can be premised on the lonely lives of wanton housewives; Why shouldn’t there be porn star blogs?
Undoubtedly, the merits or demerits of the porn industry will continue to be debated. That as it should be.
Now though, those in the industry will be able to speak on their own behalf. That too as it should be.
