“Saint and Den mother” wrote an LA Weekly article recently describing how Sharon Mitchell is regarded in the adult industry.
Maybe Mitchell, a former sexual consort to Warren Beatty, is. Maybe she isn’t. Depends what generation of porn you hail from, one imagines.
Jerry Butler in his book Raw Talent certainly talks about her in a less flattering light.
According to Butler, Mitchell produced and directed a movie titled Dick of Death, for which he never got paid.
“She still owes me $1300,” says Butler who suspects Mitchell funded a recording career with proceeds from that film.
In some ways, that might not be too surprising. Mitchell, as head of AIM, often had to deflect criticisms that her business model consisted of magician’s parlor tricks, sleight of hand and a paper bag for the money that disappeared during the vanishing act.
AIM was started in 1998 by Mitchell, partly as a result of the Marc Wallice HIV crisis and partly out of a power struggle with Bill Margold over the direction PAW [Protecting Adult Welfare] was taking.
Rather than be sucked into a drawn out internecine squabble, Margold basically created an organization for Mitchell to play with to keep her out of his hair.
