Porn Valley- I spoke to Mr. Marcus about the next talent meeting he was organizing for Tuesday night. A small crowd of 25 performers came last week and it appeared that Marcus was spearheading some things in the right direction.
“There’s really a lot of educated people in this business,” said Marcus. “And a lot of them don’t have a voice and I’m hoping to provide that. If we have a committee, they can do it that way.”
Marcus appears to be inclined to hold a series of such meetings in order to get all talent accounted for.
“We’re trying to knock out a talent bill of rights,” Marcus explains. “There’s a lot of things we want to see happening. I think people think of talent as far as, look what they do for a living. If I was an owner, and I had a line, I’d think of these people who want to be the clowns and entertain. And that’s what we are. That’s what we do for a living. But ultimately do we have a lot of rights? I don’t know. We shouldn’t be selling ourselves out for the money. There’s a lot of money in this business and this is a way of upgrading the level of talent and talent responsibility in this business. But this is a way of holding other people responsible, too.
“If medical really wants to dictate how the tests are done, then they have to be responsible 100% for what goes on,” Marcus says. “And talent has to do the same thing- be 100% responsible for what we do. The companies that make the profits- they have to be 100% responsible.
“We don’t want to have to go through this thing again,” Marcus continued, “so we’ve got to set some guidelines and put some things in place to decrease the chances of this happening again.
“We’ve got to get the people who are really serious about this in the forefront,” Marcus goes on to say. “There seems to be an overwhelming response. A lot of people care.
“At the press conference Sharon had mentioned if you’re in a contract you can collect unemployment. Well, not everyone’s under contract. And the few that are, do they give a fuck? I don’t know. I knew a lot of these people before they went under contract and they were just like every other performer in this business -working from job to job, trying to stack chips, working for certain people trying to catch someone’s eye.”
