Porn Valley- It’s cyclical. Every so many years porn soundtracks become highly fashionable collectors items, and now it appears to be Deep Throat’s turn. The music from “Throat” has long been a popular item in the UK, and now with the Brian Grazer documentary about the film being readied for theater and cable distribution, renewed interest in the music score is being anticipated for U.S. audiences. But this wouldn’t be the first time that broad interest was taken in the music of an Arrow project.
Arrow which owns “Throat” has another film in its vaults called Lialeh which has been called the black Deep Throat. It stars no one of note in the game today- Jennifer Leigh and Larry Perillar. All the lead characters were black. And it was directed and produced by blacks. But the fascination of Lialeh is in its soundtrack which was composed by jazz legend Bernard “Pretty” Purdie.
“There’s first class music in a lot of the Arrow stuff,” agrees Arrow owner Ray Pistol. “They went out and spent big bucks. It was a good money and they had a helluva soundtrack. But a new generation has never heard it. There was this guy named Bernard Purdie who composed the music and was legendary in jazz circles. A senior member of the black music community. He did the Lialeh soundtrack.”
