Porn Valley- Bethany Sweet writes: To my friends: As a recovered/recovering rape victim, I can say that this is what rape feels like. It’s not as personal, it’s not to my body, but it is rape of the mind and emotions. We live in fear for our lives and for our children and families because of this man. That is wrong. Even if you are offended by pornography, any decent person would agree that putting children in harm’s way is much worse than anything I’ve done on camera.
Am I ashamed of who I am? Do I deserve to run and hide? Or am I going to stand up? Am I going to say, “Yes! It is possible to be a porn star AND to be a good person.” The one does not negate the other.
African Americans endured worse than this to gain their freedom. I say Solidarity Amongst Ourselves. Be open more – allow people to see you behaving like a good mother or the kind of person who carries a bag of groceries for your grandma. Isn’t that who we are? It’s all a part of who we are, and remember also that we are actors. We may be shunned by mainstream actors, but let’s face it. I deserve an Oscar for every giant dick I’ve had tearing my ass apart and acting like it felt good. THAT is fucking acting, people.
We are victims here. This man has perpetuated violence against us, our families, and our friends. I believe that if we behave appropriately, the public would swing our way. All he has to do is open his mouth. Our quiet dignity and refusal to be mistreated will gain us much more than if we run around, screaming and tearing our hair out.
“Yes, I have done that. Why do you ask?” When people learn what kind of person he is, and how he is putting children in harm’s way – physically, sexually, mentally, emotionally – they will hate him.
It’s our behavior that dictates the next move.
Love and Solidarity,
Bethany Sweet xoxo
