Porn Valley- Here’s a thoroughly non-involving tidbit. On my very first job I had the assignment of interviewing a cartoonist who drew a caricature of me as I was interviewing him. Just recently I learned that male porn performer Brad Baldwin, a man I interviewed several months ago, had drawn a caricature of yours truly which was presented to me at the KSEX awards show last December. Side by side I’m looking at the two, realizing that 36 years insinuated itself in between. It’s kind of scary. When I ran into Baldwin at the World Modeling cattle call this week, I go to myself, oh shit. I had interviewed the guy during the shooting of Leave It to Cleavage, www.boobsville.com several months ago. But the way some things go, is the way some things go. Anyway, here’s an opportunity to catch up with a previously missed opportunity: the interview I had with Baldwin at the time.
Gene: The original Beaver didn’t show for this shoot.
Baldwin: Yeah, why is that. I guess I’m lucky. Fortunate.
Gene: Actually you look more like The Beaver than he would have.
Baldwin: Really? You think so?
Gene: How long have you been in the business?
Baldwin: I did it right out of high school for a little bit. Then I got out of it, got an every day job and I’m just getting back into it. I didn’t use the name Brad Baldwin the first time around. I used my real name. I was into stripping. My girlfriend was into stripping. Then we also did some fun movies in Mexico.
Gene: I can imagine. So why did you leave the business the first time.
Baldwin: Because I became a commercial artist for seven or eight years. Now, I guess it’s the starving artist-thing. But I always loved to draw and paint. And who likes to supplement his income. I decided to come back. I got some real good support from Vegas, from Britney Star who helped me get more going on. That helped me get to know more people.
Gene: She has her own company. Is that where you’re from, Vegas?
Baldwin: No. I was just starting to do some website stuff. And working with her got me less into gangbangs and more into boy-girl stuff. That helped me to get more of that work out here.
Gene: A lot of guys get started by being the no. 13 guy in a 12 man gangbang.
Baldwin: But it’s been fun all the way. I love it.
Gene: How did you just coming out of high school decide that you wanted to get into something like this.
Baldwin: Me and a girlfriend were strippers and were part of the swinging crowd. And pretty much this industry is a bunch of swingers.
Gene: But out of high school you should be doing other things.
Baldwin: Well, it’s just where me and this girl were at! We just had fun. We were stripping at parties.
Gene: Did she come in with you to work in adult?
Baldwin: Yeah. We were both having fun fucking everything and everyone. And there just happened to be cameras.
Gene: You say it so matter-of-factly that you just got out of high school and started stripping. Was there like an accident in between where you fell on your head or something like that. That’s a helluva career choice.
Baldwin: LOL. It just happened.
Gene: Tell me how it happened. That’s what makes a good story.
Baldwin: We were both wild…
Gene: Yeah.
Baldwin: We just loved to fuck and you have a nymphomaniac for a girlfriend.
Gene: But what was it. You tell her, she tells you, hey, let’s strip for parties!
Baldwin: No, no. It started where she was waiting tables at a place and won an amateur-thing. Then I started doing bachelorette parties at the time. We would kind of go to each other’s gigs. And it got to where we went into the swinger life where people had cameras. Then we started making movies with these rich people. Then I did an everyday job, now I’m getting back to that.
Gene: Are you still seeing this girl?
Baldwin: No, no. It’s been a long time.
Gene: You took time off to do commercial art.
Baldwin: Yeah. It was good but it got to where my relationship started turning into more than just one. I figured why not just get back into this.
Gene: What were you doing as a commercial artist.
Baldwin: I’d like to keep that hush-hush for now. It was a pretty popular company.
Gene: It wouldn’t be like Disney, would it?
Baldwin: Aaaaaaaaaaah. That whole industry is different and the adult industry is always in demand. So it’s the best as far as filmmaking, the best industry to be in.
Gene: There seems to be more male performers now than there ever was as I recall. I imagine you have to have confidence more than anything else to try something like this.
Baldwin: And you have to have fun at it and just have a great ol’ time, not thinking about anything else. The hottest women are in porn more than anywhere else.
Gene: What kind of kid were you growing up?
Baldwin: A good kid. I always drew. I was an artist all the time. I’m a Scorpio and real creative and always horny.
Gene: We you quiet in school?
Baldwin: I was a ham. I used to get into theater all through high school. I used to make short films every weekend with friends all through high school. I always loved filmmaking.
Gene: Is this by way of saying you want to direct?
Baldwin: Maybe, yeah, of course. I already have a lot of story ideas, like mainstream story ideas. I’m sure that kind of thinking would go great in porn.
Gene: Are are some of the girls in the business that you like.
Baldwin: I’ve always had a crush on Carmen Luvana. She’s probably one of the reasons I came back in. I’ve always wanted to do a scene with her.
Gene: Have you?
Baldwin: No [bearing in mind this interview was several months ago.] That’s the person I’d really like to meet. She’s a hottie. The whole business is just full of hotties. Sometimes you get a little crush on one in particular. If there’s one I have to give her props. And Britney Star’s fantastic.
Gene: How did you get to work with her?
Baldwin: Going out to Vegas with her and her husband. They have their own line and do really good work. They have a whole new setup. It’s perfect for making porn.
Gene: When you meet girls on the outside and they know you’re a male performer, what kind of reaction do you get?
Baldwin: They get turned on. But the other girls that you can aren’t going to be cool, you don’t tell them. That’s pretty much bottom line when it comes down to that. You can tell if a girl’s going to be cool with it.
Gene: You look like you’re into sports.
Baldwin: I’ve always lifted weights and worked out since I was 14. I was into the Joe Weider stuff way back when. It’s a way of life.
Gene: Think you can kick Lee Stone’s ass?
Baldwin: I’m not into kicking anyone’s ass.
Gene: Who do you think would win in a pose down?
Baldwin: I don’t know. I think he’s more ripped. I’m a big guy but he’s a little more shredded. And we have different looks. He’s got more tats and ear rings. I’m more of a straight. clean-cut guy.
