Chicago – from www.chicagotribune.com- Fire defender Krzysztof Krol called the phone number on Patrycja Mikula’s Facebook page in May even though he’d never met the Playboy model. Less than two months later, Krol and Mikula were saying “I do.”
The Polish couple got married on Thursday at Chicago’s City Hall, seven weeks after they began dating. They plan on having a church wedding in Chicago in December after the Major League Soccer season.
Krol admitted he didn’t know what to say when he called Mikula on a whim that first time. At that point, he’d only seen photos of Mikula, who has appeared in Playboy three times and was Playboy’s Cyber Girl of the Month in August 2007, and heard about her through a mutual friend.
“I call and hear ‘Hello’ and think ‘What do I say now?’ ” said Krol, 23, laughing.
Krol and Mikula called each other often after that and eventually agreed to meet at a Fire game at Toyota Park. On May 28, Mikula’s birthday, she and Krol had each other’s first names tattooed to the inside of their left arms.
“I never in my life thought I would get anybody’s name tattooed on me,” said Mikula, who used to date former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski. “I had an ex who used to push the subject and I would say ‘That’s forever — I don’t know.’ But I just knew in this case. I saw him and knew this is the guy for me.”
During a vacation in New York, the couple decided they would get married upon returning to Chicago. They chose to get married at City Hall because of Krol’s busy soccer schedule.
Krol joined the Fire during the offseason after years in the Polish league and a stint with Real Madrid’s reserve team in Spain. He said Italy’s Palermo showed interest in signing him before he joined the Fire, but he doesn’t regret his decision.
“Before I thought, ‘Did I make the right move?’ ” Krol said. “But if I went to Palermo, I wouldn’t know Patrycja. Now I have a wife, so I’m happy.”
