Porn Valley- Kevin Blatt was on his way to Irvine Thursday evening for another premiere of his film, American Cannibal. It’s a documentary about the making of a reality show by the same name that never got off the ground. And Blatt, long an Internet guru and purveyor of Paris Hilton sex tapes and others of that celebrity genre, was the monetary force behind the project.
Filmstew.com writes: “American Cannibal is playing this week in a single theater: the Fine Arts in Beverly Hills. Befitting the infamy of Blatt’s pornographic resume (his latest small screen endeavor is something called Virgin Territory), last Friday’s premiere was co-sponsored by Adult Video News and the websites WantedList, PussyCash and Clips4Sale.”
Blatt laughs about how he’s still screwing around with porn chicks and may never learn his lesson.
“The next time you see me I want you to kick me in the nuts- it’s not my first rodeo but I like the taste of the dirt when I get bucked off the bull!” Blatt says he’s so neurotic comedian Richard Lewis may find him to be a case study. Blatt was on the Jay Thomas show two days ago.
“I think he’s a genius, I love Jay Thomas,” says Blatt. “I’ve been a big fan of him all my life. I get on his show- it’s on Sirius Radio- and the best part about him is you can swear. He says you can talk about anything you want. I want you to talk about Red Light District. I want you to talk about porn. I want you to talk about the Paris Hilton sexvid. Obviously I want to talk about your movie.
“That was supposed to be a seven minute segment. But half way through the interview when I started to call David Faustino a douchebag, and Ian Ziering a douchebag, the guy [Thomas] says I like Red Light District’s stuff. David Joseph is a real nice guy- he sent me a box of porn.
“I said that’s fantastic- so you’re familiar with what he does. He goes let me ask you a question. At what point do people get so bored with jacking off with regular porn that they had to make this kind of porn? I’m like you didn’t care for The Cumfart Cocktail series? Is that it? I’m talking a half hour. The guy wouldn’t let me go. It was fun. Basically you go out there and do your shtick. Either people like you or they don’t like you.”
I was curious how David Faustino got into the conversation and KB explains that Jay Thomas asked him a question about Blatt’s TV series Virgin Territory and who he’d like to see pitch it.
“I said I’ve been looking at a couple different people,” Blatt told him.
“Thomas said I think you should really cast Charlie Sheen. I said that’s fuckin’ brilliant. I should get a stud to work with these virgins. He said who the hell were you thinking of? I said Bud Bundy- someone like David Faustino- America’s favorite virgin. And he starts laughing. What do David Faustino’s people say? I said well his agent was concerned it might hurt his image. Or his career. They start laughing, what career? I said, exactly. He’s a fuckin’ douchebag.
“Then they go what about that Ian Ziering guy? I go he’s another fuckin’ douchebag. I don’t want that douchebag on my show. I want cool people on my show.”
According to Blatt, the most overwhelming and touching part for him is the fact that American Cannibal is getting rave reviews.
“After three years of my life, I do this thing and wonder, oh my God. How am I going to be looked at after this. Is the porn industry going to hang me? Or are they going to love me. For three years I had a little anxiety about this and going through some serious, serious shit in the meantime- Colin Farrell and Cameron Diaz and Paris Hilton and all the lawsuits and just getting slammed by everybody.
“This all unfolds in this movie- where I basically say I’m going to do this TV show. I go out and do a reality TV show where people think they might be starved and have to eat somebody. This shit really happened. The stuff they captured on film really happened. MTV loved it. Kurt Loder loved the film. It’s been pretty overwhelming. We had the screening Friday and we had about 200 people there. I had my boy Cousin Stevie come out and support me.”
In the middle of this rendering, Blatt can’t stifle a cough.
“Wow this is some strong weed,” he laughs. “That northern Cali shit, man. So it was just overwhelming to see all these people come out, saying you were great, you nailed your part. I’m like nailed my part? They said we know it’s a documentary but you also played it up a little bit. But in it there’s a lot of good references to Houston and her labia surgery that most people weren’t ready for.”
One of the women in the movie also turned out to be a year romance for Blatt.
“That’s chronicled in the movie, it’s the most bizarre thing,” chuckles Blatt who’s on Dr. Phil on Tuesday.
“You have to see it,” Blatt adds. “It’s a guranteed Emmy winning performance.”
“And Geraldo’s flying me out to spend three days with three virgins. They want to roll with me as I take the virgins out on the town and see how KB does it.”
