Corruption Bombs Says Mike South

> Mike South writes on mikesouth.com: One thing I will say for Jeff Mullen….Nobody and I do mean NOBODY sends out better press kits. The one for “Corruption” included all kinds of porn goodies, a Kurt Lockwood sized Butt Plug, Starbucks coffee, a vibe, Parlaiment Cigarettes, Kroll Vodka, but what it didn’t come with was a movie that would inspire the use of any of said items, even the vodka isn’t going to help make this look good.

The story, what there is of it is loosely written, and thats giving it a lot of credit. Eli Cross chose to Direct himself as male lead in the movie that he wrote…Big mistake…Clint Eastwood (as in Unforgiven, Million Dollar Baby) he ain’t. What it turns out to be is just Cross masturbating all over his audience for his own gratification.

When one reviews a porn movie the first thing you have to do is ask yourself is it true to its genre? Does it work as stroke material? The answer in this case is no, the sex scenes are over edited, the cast is less than attractive and the sex leans towards misogyny far more than erotica.

OK so it doesn’t work as stroke material, is it at least entertaining? compelling? In short the answer is no. Aside from a poorly written story (ever heard of a three act play?) the acting is abysmally bad. It’s obvious that Cross is simply playing the person he would like to be (maybe is) in real life and he does it with all the acting skill that I had when I pretended to be John Wayne when I was a kid.

From a directoral standpoint, the color palette is inconsistant, shots are hand held when they should be on a tripod, or better yet a crane. The use of slow shutter speeds and too many similar camera and editing effects detract from any real mood the movie might have been trying to create. The young lady who watched it with me was totally bored by it and remarked “Why did it take them 4 fucking hours to tell a ten minute story?”

The much heralded fisting scene with Kylie Ireland didn’t arouse either of us and reminded me that fisting is one of the things that will potentially bring about an obscenity prosecution, I mean just because you spent a lot of money on it doesn’t make it art nor does it give it SERIOUS (key word) scientific, political or socially redeeming value, I mean anyone can pay a monkee a million dollars to throw it’s feces on a canvas, but that doesn’t make it art.

The one good thing I will say about corruption is that it looked great (as far as the up res goes) on my HDTV. It was obviously edited and posted in 24P or 30P which is the right way to go these days.

Sorry, but in my opinion (and that of Heather) it just ain’t very good…..
