from www.freep.com – Plymouth police are investigating a 22-year-old woman’s claim that she was the victim of inappropriate contact by a Lions player.
“It’s not a rape charge or anything like that,” Detective Lt. Jamie Grabowski said Friday, declining to further describe the contact.
Michael Jaafar of the Jaafar and Mahdi Law Group in Dearborn said he represented the woman and that she was assaulted at a holiday party Monday night at the Ironwood Grill in downtown Plymouth. Jaafar declined to provide details, but said “we’re not talking anything extreme here, we’re not talking rape or anything even close to that.”
He added: “We’re representing her for the possibility of filing a civil suit. That’s our aim, that’s our goal, and once we feel that it’s the right time to do it, we’re going to do it. Our opinion at this point is that we’re going to wait for the investigation to play out. It shouldn’t take too long.”
Grabowski said the player, whom he did not identify, denied there was any contact. He said he hoped to finish the investigation and present the findings to prosecutors by the end of next week. They would determine whether charges were warranted.
Lions spokesperson Bill Keenist declined comment Friday, as did a manager at the Ironwood Grill.
On Thursday, Channel 4 reported that the Ironwood was closed for a private party and that 10 members of the Lions’ organization, including five players, knocked on the glass to come inside.
Jaafar said the player “was kicked out of the establishment because of the incident.”
