Porn Valley- One of the adult industry’s biggest success stories of recent years has been authoring company Dimension DVD, www.dimensiondvd.com
In four years Robert Brickman has been quietly and efficiently building a powerhouse that, this past January, finally achieved expectations by receiving three AVN awards for technical achievement. Brickman started the company along with Daniel Milstein in September, 2000. And, thanks to Milstein’s enormous mainstream resume, the company got off and running with the ability to bring high-end DVD to the adult industry.
Brickman, of course, is the son of Charlie Brickman who owns CDi. Robert worked there a number of years and started Dimension DVD actually with the intention of making it a side business. “Which turned into a full time job,” he states. One of the company’s first big clients was Vivid. “That put us on the map,” says Brickman. “It got us some clout. Being a new company and having Vivid as a client was a pretty good sales tool.”
Given the competition out there, I asked Brickman what is it that Dimension DVD brings to the table and does, perhaps, better than the next guy. Brickman thinks it might be himself.
“Our best asset to anyone this industry is the fact that I’ve been in this industry for over 12 years. I know how the industry works,” he says. “Because of that I’m on top of the ability to manage their company schedules and get the releases out on time. A lot of people don’t know the inside workings of the adult industry very well, and they don’t have an inkling how sensitive the release dates are and that they get out on time.. Plus, we turn around titles in three to five days which nobody else can do- and with quality control.”
Fresh out of the gate, the company’s first account was Fat Dog Productions, says Brickman. “We picked up Vivid soon after that. That got us our start plus the fact that a lot lof people trusted me because of who my dad is. That allowed me to get in the door but then I had to prove that I, without my dad’s help, and having the benefit of being my dad’s son could do the work, be on time and be credible. I had to earn all that on my own. Once I was in he door it was all up to me.”
The culmination, in the sense, was that Brickman’s company walked away with some awards this past January. “We finally got recognized,” says Brickman. “Wicked won those awards but we still worked on those titles. We had a hand in getting those titles to the market place so they could be sold.”
By moving deeper into Porn Valley this past January, Brickman was able to solidify his customer base even more so. “We moved from Encino to Chatsworth,” he notes. “The thing we most often heard is that our customers are a lot more comfortable with the fact that we’re closer. And that seemed to double or triple our business since January. We’re hoping to continue on the upswing.”
Brickman continues to be the man in the field. “I still go knocking on doors. I still deliver projects to customers doors. I pick up new work. I’m a very hands-on person. One of the other things that people are not used to in this industry is being able to call the owner of the company and have him pick up the phone any time- especially with a problem.”
On a recent note, Brickman mentions that his company just picked up the Hustler video account. “Which is a great addition to our portfolio of clients.”
