Ex Playboy Model Gets Suspended Jail Sentence in Toilet Attack Case

from www.bbc.co.uk – A former Playboy Model of the Year has been given a suspended jail sentence for hitting another woman’s head against a toilet up to 10 times.

Louise Glover, 26, formerly of Essex, was convicted of attacking Maxine Hardcastle, in Brighton in 2007, following a trial at Hove Crown Court.

She was sentenced to 30 weeks in jail, suspended from two years, and 180 hours of unpaid community work.

Judge Charles Kemp described it as a “vicious and unprovoked attack”.

He said Glover was motivated by an “irrational surge of jealousy”.

He added that, more worryingly, there was a “complete absence of any sign of remorse” from Glover.

Glover, who had denied the charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, was told to “shut up and listen” by Judge Kemp after she repeatedly called out from the dock.

At one point he warned her she faced being taken down to the court cells if she did not keep quiet.

Glover was also ordered her to have no contact with Miss Hardcastle – the daughter of 1980s musician Paul Hardcastle – for the next 10 years.

Judge Kemp told Glover, whose last UK address was Audley Gardens, Loughton, Essex, the attack still had an emotional and psychological impact on her victim.

He said Miss Hardcastle was unable to enjoy nights out and remained self-consciousness as a result of her hair having pulled out.

During the trial the court heard Glover invited Miss Hardcastle and her friend, Nancy Stillwell, to an appearance she was making in Brighton on 15 December 2007.

They were part of a 10-strong party which moved on to the Oceana nightclub in the early hours.

Jurors heard the three women ended up in a toilet cubicle, where Glover became agitated and accused them of looking at her husband – from whom she is now estranged.

The court was told she then hit Miss Hardcastle, breaking her nose and making her hit her head on the cubicle.

Playboy’s Model of the Year 2006 repeatedly hit her victim’s head against the toilet and then tried to force her head down the bowl.

The attack ended after Glover’s husband was heard outside the cubicle telling her to stop.

Glover later claimed she acted in self-defence after Miss Hardcastle became emotional and hysterical about apparent family problems.

She had claimed her victim had sustained her injuries when the cubicle door was kicked in.

from www.dailymail.co.uk – A former Playboy Model of the Year who launched a ‘vicious and unprovoked attack’ on another woman in a jealous row over her husband walked free from court today.

Louise Glover, 27, flew into a rage in a nightclub after accusing the daughter of 80s popstar Paul Hardcastle of flirting with her husband.

She struck Maxine Hardcastle’s head against a toilet rim up to 10 times and tried to push her head down the lavatory – tearing out clumps of hair – during a night out in Brighton, East Sussex.

But today Glover escaped a prison sentence.

The brunette, who has appeared semi-naked in a string of ‘lads mags’ and on a BBC show entitled Glamour Girls, was found guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm following a trial at Hove Crown Court in December last year.

Returning to the same court to be sentenced, Glover, dressed in a white coat and black miniskirt with black knee-high boots, was late, delaying the hearing.

She had to be instructed to ‘shut up and listen’ after calling out from the dock several times.

When prosecutor Andrew Judge told the court she had a previous conviction for assaulting a police constable in 2001, she shouted: ‘No I didn’t.’

Glover could also be heard murmuring when he said she had received a caution for assault occasioning actual bodily harm following an incident in London’s Pacha nightclub in 2005.

Judge Charles Kemp warned her she would be taken down to the cells if she refused to be quiet, before sentencing her to a 30-week prison sentence to be suspended for two years.

He described the attack on Miss Hardcastle – which left her covered in blood and suffered hair loss, facial bruising and scratches to her arms and legs – as a ‘vicious and unprovoked attack’.

It was motivated by an ‘irrational surge of jealousy’, but more worrying, he said, was the ‘complete absence of any sign of remorse’.

Judge Kemp said the attack had a lasting emotional and psychological impact on musician and DJ Miss Hardcastle, who has been unable to enjoy nights out as she did before and is self-conscious as a result of her hair been pulled out.

Telling Glover she should understand, Judge Kemp said: ‘You, Miss Glover, are a woman who has made a living based on your appearance, your self-confidence and your outgoing nature.’

It was Glover who invited Miss Hardcastle and her friend Nancy Stillwell to an event she was hosting at a sports bar.

But when they arrived, the St Helens-born pin-up turned on the friends saying: ‘I know what you Essex girls are like.’

It was when the group moved on to a nightclub that events took a vicious turn.

Wearing a pink Sant outfit, Glover pursued the two women to a toilet cubicle in the Oceana Club and accusing them of looking at her husband, from whom she is now estranged.

Miss Stillwell left after Glover spilled a drink down her dress. It was then that Glover launched her attack on Miss Hardcastle, who ‘pleaded’ with her to stop.

Holding her by her neck, Glover repeatedly hit her head against the rim of the lavatory and afterwards tried to force her head down the toilet bowl.

The attack stopped after Glover’s husband was heard outside the cubicle, telling her to calm down.

Glover claimed she acted in self-defence after Miss Hardcastle became ‘hysterical’.

Quentin Hunt, in mitigation said it remained ‘a mystery’ how the incident had descended into such violence.

Alluding to Glover’s ‘difficult’ past, he said there were ‘very troubling aspects in her background that go some way to explaining why she has what is an extremely short fuse’.

He said the model’s modelling career in the US would now not be possible due to her criminal record and that her career was in ‘tatters’.

‘She has been abandoned by several commercial sponsors who were interested in working with her, including the Playboy brand,’ he said.

In the dock, Glover looked down at her feet as she said: ‘My career is over now.’

Judge Kemp also sentenced her to carry out 180 hours of unpaid work in the community and ordered her to have no contact with Miss Hardcastle for the next 10 years.
