From www.balkaninsight.com- Lidija Sunjerga, a former porn actress, has found her way to the top of the independent list of candidates and entered the race for mayor in the Croatian town of Kastela, reports the Globus weekly.

She says she will fight for gender equality and environment protection in the south Croatian town. She says she hopes for votes equally from the young and old.

Sunjerga acted in porn films in the Netherlands in the 1990s before returning to her hometown Kastela.

This is the first time in Croatia that somebody from the porn industry has run for a political seat though across the world there are precedents.

Illona Staller, better known as Cicciolina, became a member of the Italian parliament some 20 years ago.

Milly D’Abbracio and the Czech Republic’s Dolly Buster tried to do the same but failed to pass the threshold.
