Creep of the week, no contest.
Florida- An alleged baby-peddling granny wanted to give some of the cash to her daughter to buy a new car, Florida police said.
Patty Bigbee, 45, grabbed national headlines this month after she brokered the deal on behalf of her daughter, Stephanie Bigbee Fleming, mother of the 8-week-old child.
“Fleming planned to purchase a new vehicle from the money received,” a spokeswoman for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said on Tuesday.
Bigbee initially demanded $75,000 from a stranger in a parking lot in Daytona Beach, but eventually agreed to take $30,000.
Fleming, 22, of Bradenton, Fla., was to receive $9,000 from the sale. She was going to use the money to also pay court costs for an unrelated probation violation, police said.
Cops were tipped off by the prospective buyer, who said the grandmother approached and offered to sell the child. Authorities then staged a sting operation after the child was in the back of the undercover buyer’s car.
Fleming was taken into custody on Tuesday. The grandmother was arrested last week, alongside her boyfriend Lawrence Works, both of Holly Hill, Fla.. All three were charged with the illegal sale of a child.
The baby remains in state custody.
