from www.krcrtv.com – There are new developments in the case of the teenager who brought a gun to Las Plumas High School in Oroville in 2007.
His mother is in trouble with the law for allegedly smuggling drugs to her son in prison. Sharlee Morton is the mother of Gregory Wright who is serving time at Mule Creek Prison in Amador County.
Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey said Morton was arrested earlier this month while visiting her son at the prison in Ione. Prison investigators said they found her attempting to smuggle pre-packaged marijuana into her son inside the prison, by concealing it in her vagina.
Ramsey said Wright told prison investigators she’d been smuggling in drugs for him to sell to other inmates for the last 11 months.
After her arrest, Morton bailed out of jail, and returned to Butte County. She was re-arrested Tuesday for violating her probation on a prior drunk driving charge. She’s scheduled to appear in court Wednesday afternoon.
Under the terms of her probation, she could face 3 years in prison.
Her son, Gregory Wright is serving a 22-year prison sentence. Back in 2007, the then 17-year-old Wright brought a gun to Las Plumas High School.
His family claimed he was suicidal after a girlfriend broke up with him. Prosecutors said he held students hostage, firing two shots into the ceiling inside the school.
Wright was charged with attempted murder and accepted a plea deal sending him to prison for 22 years, rather than stand trial and face a possible life sentence. Wright pleaded to false imprisonment and discharging a weapon on campus.
