Porn Valley- Director Eli Cross, Kylie Ireland and Eva Angelina visited KSEX Monday night promoting Upload, Cross' new film for SexZ Pictures.
Fuck Soup co-host Jason Sinclair said he had seen it and thought it was "pretty cool" and that Angelina was particularly good. Much was also made of the camerawork which was handled by Ren Savant.
"The movie looks really fucking cool- everyone deserves a round of applause," said Sinclair.
Cross mentioned the fact that Savant used to be under contract to Vivid but got fired after bringing in the multi-award winning Seven Deadly Sins [which was scripted by AVN employee at the time Rebecca Gray].
From the sounds of it, snits were thrown because it came out the same year that Paul Thomas directed Awakening and that film was considered Thomas' best ever.
Sinclair and co-host Peter Warren also got on a discussion about Fashionistas 3 with Warren particularly impressed by Nacho Vidal's acting.
Both were in agreement that the film was "sexy as hell".
Cross said he hadn't seen Part 3 but thought Fashionistas overall was "incredibly dull". Sinclair also mentioned that he had been to the Heaven & Hell Halloween party and thought it was too crowded whereas Warren was of the opinion that ot was pleasantly spread out.
Warren told a story about running into Max Hardcore at the party and that Max, who at first didn't recpgnize him, was trying to get two "random chicks" to get into his car. They asked Max where the party was, and Max told them it was in his car. After conferring with her girlfriend, one of the girls who had been tempted to take him up on his offer, finally said no.
Max asked Warren if he knew either of those two "whores". Warren said he didn't, then Max drove off. Warren next played the customary classics clip which he does each show. This one was from Insatiable starring Marilyn Chambers.
"This movie blows- turn it off," snarled Sinclair.
In prefacing his comments about the Upload projects, Cross made a general reference to editors as chimpanzees with thumbs and when Ralph Parfait's name got brought into the conversation, Cross said, ""There's moments when he tries and moments when he doesn't."
On behalf of film, Cross said he loved it but feels that it's an anti-sex medium because of the cumbersome cameras required to shoot and the extra lighting that's required.
According to Cross, Upload includes scenes of pissing, fisting and strong bondage but that version's only available in the director's cut. According to Cross, it was a 20-day shoot, and Angelina, the star of the picture, was on set 17 of those days.
[Angelina was handed a dead mike, hence most of her comments couldn't be heard.]
Cross wrote the script along with a former AVN'er who now goes by the stage name "Alvin Edwards". Meanwhile, Ireland's sex scene is with Delilah Strong and Derrick Pierce and was shot in black and white, film noir style.
Warren thought the scene was brilliant and that someone needs to step to the plate and make a full length black & white film noir. Cross didn' think that was likeky to happen.
"The detective-thing has been done to death," he observes. Cross was also of the opinion that every Fozzi script and every Jim Enright movie beat the subject to death. According to Cross, every one of those movies was about either a cheating wife, a detective or a detective following a cheating wife.
Cross was also of the opinion that his own crew doesn't shoot porn like everyone else, that most of his crew comes from the mainstream.
"We're making movies that have sex in it," says Cross who was full of praise for Angelina's participation in the project.
"Eva was always there and we shot hard days."
Also, according to Cross, she's featured in two big fight scenes.
"We spent three days beating the shit out of her," he laughs. So it became the popular line behind the scenes that Angelina was getting the shit beat out of her.
"She never complained, not a peep," he adds. Cross admitted he had a bug up his ass, and that was with Entertainium because the day they were scheduled to shoot dialogue scenes there, four other shoots had also been booked.
"And these other assholes are making noise," he says. "I popped a stitch. The sound was hell in that scene."
Cross said they also ran into a snag when an office building they had booked way in advance to stand in for Federal offices suddenly became unavailable.
Judging by what he was told, the potential buyers of the building might queer the deal if they found out porn had been shot there. With the budget nearly exhausted at this point, Cross said he had to build a set using the loft he and Ireland occupy.
Cross said earlier plans had been to shoot a sequel to last year's multi award winner, Corruption. But figuring he might not be able to pull it off in time, Cross had been sitting on the Upload idea for five years and elected to go with the Sci-Fi idea instead. The film, which has a $350,000 price tag, takes place 20 to 30 years in the future.
"It was as different from Corruption as we could get," states Cross, jokingly referring to Corruption as a "dark, bitter and awful" drama that takes place in a bunch of rooms with people talking.
With Upload, Cross elected to break every porn rule he generally holds dear which meant including gun fights, fist fights and [CG] cars being blown up.
In one sequence Angelina, again, gets the shit kicked out of her - by a Hillary Scott CG robot.
