Porn Valley – It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Harry Weiss announced a deal with Brent’s Delicatessen or Buffets International.

But I was kind of taken aback when I got a call from Weiss after my story about Hillary Scott appeared on Adultfyi this week. https://www.adultfyi.com/read.aspx?ID=7863

Scott was talking about a scene she had done in Las Vegas with a teddy bear. Surprisingly, for a company called Lurid Pictures. Surprising, because you don’t expect a company called Lurid to be doing teddy bear movies. But that’s not all that it’s about says Weiss, noting that Lurid intends to be a big player in the Hi-Def market. Weiss also mentions that he’s heavily involved with the company.

Weiss was also telling me that Lurid was shooting a couple of scenes this weekend featuring Taylor Rain including one for their Bearly Legal series. “That’s where they have sex with the bear,” says Weiss as if an explanation was really necessary. Rain will also be doing a scene for another series the company has which is called Power Strokers.

Scott had also done one of those scenes as well. “That’s where we have heavy duty construction tools with dildos attached,” says Weiss. “Taylor’s going to be shooting a guy-guy-girl scene D.P. with the equipment.” From what I gather, this one’s going to take place in an auto shop.

According to Weiss, the company is also shopping for a distribution deal for DVD release.

“For now they’ve been shooting everything in Hi-Def and they’re one of two companies that shoot in Hi-Def and edit in Hi-Def,” says Weiss. “But we’re the only ones that have our costs low enough where it’s practical to shoot and edit Hi-def for gonzo and wall-to-wall. Most people shoot in 720, we shoot 1080i. Basically we’ll be able to sell our product for the same price as standard Def.”

I also speak to Stuart who’s one of the principals in the company. Stuart tells me that Lurid is not just shooting movies of girls making love to teddy bears. According to Stuart, the company exhibited at the recent AEE, and displayed how its using Hi-Definition as a medium for adult entertainment. “We’ve got some creative minds here and we’re going in different directions.” One of those being music videos, he says. Beyond that, Weiss says the company will probably do some feature work as well.

“Everyone’s got anal but no one’s got something to do with a bear theme,” he hastens to point out. Stuart wasn’t sure exactly how bears were going to come off in the final analysis. “But if you can find the talent that can sell the character, Hillary was a prime example. It was an awesome scene. It was phenomenal. I can’t say enough about it.”

Another thing Lurid will concentrate on, says Stuart, is feature-length vignettes. What got the company rolling, he says, was a vision of taking gonzo “which for a long time had been the bargain basement of adult video for content” and elevating it to a very high quality. Besides shooting with two cameras, the company, about a year ago, began looking into the cost effectiveness of creating content in Hi-Def by shooting and editing in native Hi-Def.

“It works really well but we had an excruciating learning curve,” Stuart admits. But what they also discovered was something remarkable they had for use on the Internet as well. “What we found is that we have incredibly high quality compared to what else is available on the Internet,” says Stuart noting that the product can be blown up to full screen.

According to Weiss, “When you blow Video On Demand up to full screen size it looks like those videos of Bigfoot sightings. You really can’t make out what it is. But here with the stuff we’ve done, it’s crystal clear.”

“We’re going after the broadband market,” Stuart also states. “We look at this and say 50% of the households in the US that have Internet access, have broadband. We’re really not catering to dial-up, although the sites we’re launching in the next couple of days will have some lower bandwidth options. But we’re catering to the guys that have DSL or Broadband and want a high quality.”

“Our idea and focus is to provide a level of quality that’s completely unmatched by anything that’s available,” says Stuart.
