from www.chron.com – A Japanese pornography website is sweeping up web traffic to a domain name that a Democratic challenger to Texas Rep. Kevin Brady was planning to use as his campaign website.

Democratic congressional hopeful Neil Burns wanted a domain name that would include his name and express the purpose of the site, but a friend tipped him off that any visitors to burnsforcongress.com wound up looking at Japanese sex trade.

Burns, a former oil executive from The Woodlands, is seeking to represent Texas’ 8th District. Burns has not publicly released the name of the new domain name for his campaign site, wanting to wait until he officially files for the race next month. He reportedly emailed the owner of the porn site, but has not heard back.

Burns’ research revealed that the domain name was originally held by a Georgia congressman, but the porn site somehow began redirecting traffic from that site since the original owner no longer uses it.

Brady, R-The Woodlands, is an influential member of the tax-writing House Ways & Means Committee and is the top House Republican on the congressional Joint Economic Committee. The district leans heavily Republican but has been significantly changed by the Texas Legislature during the 2011 redistricting process.
