from www.blogs.pitch.com – Ladies, while a shotgun may seem like a way to get your ex-boyfriend to take you back, it’s not going to lead to everlasting love. Just ask 69-year-old Sharon Kern. She packed up her .410 shotgun and went to reconcile with her ex, Rex Butler, last September.
Butler, having grapefruits for balls, told Kern that he wasn’t about to get back together with her. Butler told police that when he and Kern couldn’t work out their differences, she told him: “This is your fault. I have to do something now, and it is going to be your fault.”
Sounds vaguely threatening. Kern returned with a shotgun.
Butler told police that Kern repeatedly said, “I am going to kill you,” while pointing the shotgun at him. Butler left the room but returned when Kern told him that she’d put the gun down. That’s when she allegedly fired it, hitting Kern in the left arm, stomach and intestines, and wounding his sense of trust.
If that wasn’t enough, Butler says Kern started hitting him in the head with the shotgun. He finally escaped to a neighbor’s home.
Kern told a different story. She claimed that she accidentally shot Butler when he tried to take the gun away because she was supposedly suicidal.
Authorities weren’t buying it. They believe she intentionally shot Butler.
Last week, Kern was given a 10-year suspended sentence. The Springfield News-Leader reported that she pleaded guilty and will serve five years of supervised probation. She’ll also be required to undergo a substance-abuse evaluation and pay for Butler’s medical bills. And it’s hoped that somewhere in there, she’ll be required to stay far, far away from Butler.
