NY- He really liked to watch.
The Legal Aid lawyer charged with secretly videotaping his female colleagues as they changed in their offices was described as a prodigious porn collector who regularly got deliveries of X-rated material at the Queens apartment he shares with his mom – including one tape of topless women at the beach.
A neighbor in Kew Gardens watched police haul out the video amid boxes of a collection from the second-floor apartment of Peter Barta, 32, who has lived in Apt. 4B2 with his mother, Eva, for about three years.
Building residents said Barta, an up-and-coming public defender who allegedly used a camcorder disguised as a digital alarm clock to capture nude images of young co-workers, was mostly quiet and kept to himself.
“He’s a nice guy,” said the superintendent of the building, who asked not to identified by name.
But another resident described an angry confrontation in the lobby after he accidentally pushed Barta’s doorbell – and watched in horror as the lawyer cursed him out in front of the neighbor’s young nephew.
“He came down swearing at us. He called us f-ing a-holes,” said Leonard Rios. “He has an attitude.”
Barta, pudgy-faced and nearly bald, describes himself as “just your average urban superhero” on his MySpace page.
A login entry shows he checked on the account yesterday, but a privacy service prevented users from looking at his personal information.
Barta, who represented criminal defendants in front of the same judge who took his not-guilty plea Friday, did not answer his apartment buzzer yesterday or return e-mail messages.
Barta now works for a legal temp agency. He was forced to resign last year after police began their investigation.
He was released without bail Friday and faces up to four years in prison on felony charges of unlawful surveillance.
