NY- A teacher at a Long Island school for the gifted who was busted on kiddie porn charges told authorities he has “a fetish for young boys, slavery and cannibalism.”
“I like kids. They’re fun,” Michael Reiner, 46, told Canadian border agents, according to a complaint unsealed yesterday. “I say I’m going to eat them, but I’m only joking. The kids always laugh.”
But authorities don’t think there’s anything funny about the child pornography allegedly found on Reiner’s home computer or the 1,000 images of scantily clad young boys on his laptop.
Then there’s his Web site, which invites boys to join his “slave” camp and asks how they feel “about the prospect of being eaten,” authorities said.
The Web site contains a disclaimer that it’s fictional, and Reiner said he doesn’t practice cannibalism.
Reiner, a teacher for 18 years at the private Long Island School for the Gifted in Huntington Station, came to the attention of investigators last month when Canadian officers at the border in Ontario examined his laptop and discovered the photos of boys.
He also showed the officers his Web site, which Reiner explained “was intended to be accessed by people who shared his interest in young boys, slavery and cannibalism,” according to the complaint unsealed yesterday in Central Islip Federal Court.
Reiner was allowed to enter Canada and return to the U.S. because the laptop photos were not illegal, but he was questioned by U.S. Homeland Security Department agents on his way back in. Reiner consented to a search of his East Meadow home, where agents seized dozens of sexually explicit photos and video clips of children, authorities said.
Reiner was ordered held without bail by Magistrate Kathleen Tomlinson.
The School for the Gifted enrolls nearly 300 children in grades kindergarten through nine. School lawyer Linda Caputo-Friedman said Reiner had been fired.
