from www.dunnconnect.com – Shooters Showgirls, a topless club in the town of Elk Mound, was the scene of an altercation that landed a 30-year-old Hawaiian man in the Dunn County Jail.
On Dec. 30, Demetrius A. Hawkins of Honolulu was arrested for allegedly choking a dancer as well as assaulting two bouncers and damaging property. He has been charged with one felony count of strangulation and suffocation. In addition, Hawkins faces five misdemeanor charges including two counts of battery one each of criminal damage to property, disorderly conduct, and resisting or obstructing an officer.
According to the criminal complaint:
A Dunn County Sheriff’s deputy was called to Shooter’s about man who had been locked out of the establishment following an altercation and was kicking the door in an attempt to reenter.
A female dancer told authorities she was giving a patron a lap dance on the raised dance floor behind the bar when Hawkins pinched her in the thigh. After she told him she was with a paying customer and not to touch her, Hawkins yelled obscenities and tried to throw a chair at her.
When the dancer took the chair out of his hands and set it down, she said Hawkins grabbed her by the throat and slammed her against a wall. Almost immediately, several customers jumped in, allowing her to escape.
One of the customers was struck in the eye as he attempted to pull Hawkins away from the dancer. The club’s head bouncer reported that Hawkins punched him in the chest and later in the face as the bouncer intervened.
As Hawkins was being escorted from the premises, he knocked over chairs and threw a cash register to the floor. Hawkins’ father helped remove his son from the club and later apologized for his son’s behavior, which also included resisting arrest, refusing to give his name, and addressing racial slurs to the deputies.
After an initial appearance in Dunn County Circuit Court on Tuesday, Hawkins was released on a $1,500 bond and is scheduled for a final pre-trial on March 29.
