LYNDONVILLE, N.Y. – It was a Sunday without their troubled pastor.
A western New York church is moving on after their leader went missing, and was then found in an unexpected place.
The last Sunday of the month is the first Sunday service for the faithful at St. John Lutheran Church in Lyndonville without their spiritual leader, Pastor Craig Rhodenizer.
Church member Reevalyn Quiett said, “He and his family are in our prayers.”
Pastor Craig, reported missing by his wife last week, was found Friday morning by police in a strip club in Riverside, Ohio near Dayton.
Pastor Craig’s wife Susan Rhodenizer said, “…very, very surprising; totally out of character.”
Rev. Rhodenizer has guided the followers here for nearly four years. Reevalyn Quiett led Sunday’s service in his absence.
Quiett said, “Pastor Craig came in at challenging time and he just led us through a difficult time and did a fantastic job.”
New York Lutheran church leaders have this to say, “We ask for prayers of healing for pastor Rhodenizer, his family, and the members of St. John Lutheran Church.”
When police talked to Rhodenizer outside K.C. Lounge Friday, they say he seemed incoherent. Dancers and other employees tell a different story.
Riverside Police Department Detective Matthew Sturgeon said, “It appeared that he was pretty coherent inside the bar.”
Police say the pastor bought booze and private dances.
No charges were filed.
Now, the faithful are offering whatever they can to help.
Reevalyn Quiett, “Everyone that I know is behind pastor Craig and supports him 100 percent.”
“He’s a very well loved and respected man.”
