from www.gothamist.com – A Brooklyn woman is going on trial for allegedly damaging an NYPD officer’s testicles as the cop tried to arrest her son in their Crown Heights apartment in 2008. Prosecutors say that when officers tried to take her son downtown, 46-year-old Elen Murell went nuts and attacked Officer Derek O’Sullivan. She allegedly “grabbed, pulled and twisted” the cop’s genitals, causing him to pass out. O’Sullivan suffered a torn testicle, requiring surgery to repair it and causing him “substantial pain,” according to a copy of the criminal complaint obtained by the Daily News. But Murell’s lawyer says the charges are a little blown out of proportion.

Lawyer Michael Millet tells the Daily News that O’Sullivan needed surgery, but downplayed the extent of his injuries by pointing out that he only spent one day in the hospital. When questioned further, Millet got a little testy, telling a reporter, “At the time this happened, she was suffering under a disability and let me leave it at that for now.” Murell, a former home care attendant, was charged with felony assault, resisting arrest and obstructing government administration.
