But even with that, Wildlife’s, www.wildlifexxx.com doing Murderers’ Row numbers with Otto & Audrey Destroy the World, a movie that comes pretty much to writing the last word on wrecking your ass with a Louisville Slugger. “It’s as far as you can go without getting indicted,” agrees Steve Volponi from Wildlife.
Besides the fact that the Otto & Audrey movie details wondrous excursions into anal insanity in exchange for a paycheck, I figured the sales numbers would be there, as well. And the view from behind home plate puts you in a position to play pretty good hunches. I was telling Bobby Rinaldi as much back then. I said he had a winner. Rinaldi knew he had a winner. Now the numbers are showing that Rinaldi might be something of a genius as well in the marketing category.
I’m talking to Volponi who’s telling me that customers are quadrupling their normal sales orders. And there’s a reason for this. Rinaldi took a page out of the Reservoir Dogs playbook and is offering four different boxcovers- a different girl on each boxcover. And some customers are ordering all four, says Volponi. “This is unbelievable.” And Volponi’s saying this in the voice of someone who just had their leprosy cured at Lourdes.
“This is so wacky. I’ve got people who might be taking 50 of a number; now they’re taking 50 of each boxcover,” says Volponi, noting that Julie Night, Renee Pornero, Hillary Scott and Selena Silver each have their own reasons to be happy. “Where people might go, ah, no, I don’t want to take it- I don’t like that girl. They have these options now,” says Volponi. “People are, like, I’m really going to do good with that.” Not to mention the fact that Otto & Audrey Destroy The World comes in a 3-disc set which translates to 8 hours of footage.
“We had a couple of guys who don’t take shit, but they’re taking a 100 pieces,” adds Volponi, noting that the movie is selling $4 to $6 more beyond the regular Wildlife prices. “Of course they’re getting more bang for their buck with DVD and footage, but with the covers it’s amazing. It also helps the girls who have their own websites- hey, I’m on the cover of this movie. It’s almost like we’re changing the face of what we’re doing over here. When Bobby told the girls they were going to get their own cover, they went out of their way to give really good scenes.”
Volponi explains that the package contains the movie itself, along with the behind the scenes and a bonus disc that includes 8 full scenes of other movies from the company’s Powerhouse line. “And you’ve got a whole bunch of stroke value there,” Volponi notes. “A couple of times throughout the year with this series we’re going to so something special with the packaging.” The next edition, he says, will include three other Audrey Hollander movies. “It’ll be like a 4-pack. But this is out of control. Pretty fuckin’ crazy.” Volponi says given the time he’s been in the business, this is some of the best response he’s ever seen to a movie.
“This is a slow period for this business,” Volponi points out. “Usually I’d be sitting here with my thumb up my ass, just hangin'”
