WWW- Marvin Gaye put legions of lovers in the mood and scored a monster hit with “Let’s Get It On.”Now a New York-based artist is trying to hit the charts with a recording that features people actually getting it on.
“The Sex Album” is Jessica Vale’s maiden voyage into the music business and is made up almost entirely of recorded sounds of people – including herself – having sex.
That snare drum sound? It’s a hand paddling a posterior. That bass line? Produced by a vibrator. And that guitar solo? Moans of ecstasy processed through a computer.
“We also recorded people in bathtubs and showers and captured those sounds,” Vale said. “Velcro, like in Velcro wrist restraints, was also great source material.”
But although Vale sings of “disco libido” and other sensual subjects in a come-hither voice, the 26-year-old performer insists, “This is no porn soundtrack.
“We really wanted to make an album that you can dance to at a club,” she said. “A lot of sexual music out there is filled with silly, superficial stuff. We wanted something that not only sounded sexy, but hit on an emotional level.”
Vale said the idea for the album grew out of other performance pieces she was working on. She started collecting salacious sounds about a year ago.
“A few were produced by me, but mostly they came from other couples,” said Vale, who is single. “We started with acquaintances and people we had met here and there. We got lucky.”
Vale said she used strategically placed mikes to capture the most intimate sounds. Then it all came together at Absolute Audio mastering studios in Manhattan.
Vale’s record is only available at www.thesexalbum.com. But she’s talking to some major labels and plans to make more records.
“We’re definitely working on new material,” she said. “That’s not to say the new stuff will involve sex.”
