Pineapple Support, a mental health nonprofit for the adult industry, has announced the launch of multiple free online support groups for performers and creators on the autism spectrum. These six-week programs aim to provide tailored support and resources for neurodivergent individuals in the adult industry.
Pineapple Support Initiatives
Pineapple Support is hosting a free online support group for performers and creators who are, or suspect they may be, on the autism spectrum. This six-week program, titled "Spectrum Support Group," will be led by Pineapple Support therapist Haley O’Bryan. The group is scheduled to begin on April 7 at 8 p.m. (EST) and will hold sessions approximately one hour in length, taking place on Wednesdays through May 12.
Haley O’Bryan stated that the group offers a "gentle, embracing space" where participants can explore strategies for self-care, social interaction, and personal empowerment, fostering a supportive community. Pineapple Support founder Leya Tanit expressed gratitude to Chaturbate for their support in launching this group. Tanit noted that performers on the autism spectrum encounter unique challenges in both their personal and professional lives, and the group will offer a safe and inclusive space for connection, sharing, and tailored support.
Another six-week online support group, "Sex Work on the Spectrum," was led by Pineapple therapist Rachael Wells. This group began on Tuesday, February 21st at 5pm EST. Sessions lasted for approximately one hour and took place online each Tuesday at the same time until March 28th. Rachael Wells commented that living with autism and being in the adult industry can present opportunities while also creating a sense of "othering." Topics covered included stimming, existing autistically, and discussing societal ups and downs in relation to autism.
Leya Tanit also stated that living on the autistic spectrum as a sex worker can present a unique set of challenges that may be difficult to navigate alone. Tanit emphasized that supporting each other within the community and gaining a deeper understanding can help remove shame and disconnection around living with autism. The goal is to validate, uplift, and celebrate autistic joy as sex workers, guided by Rachael Wells.
Pineapple Support also announced a free online support group, sponsored by Pornhub, to assist performers on the autism spectrum. This six-week "Sex Work on the Spectrum" support group was led by Pineapple Support therapist Amy Studer and began on a Tuesday at 9 a.m. PDT, continuing until April 16. Amy Studer described the space as safe and non-judgmental, offering practical insights and coping strategies for the intersection of sex work and neurodivergence. Studer indicated that each week would focus on a new area to empower participants, including establishing healthy boundaries, honing communication skills, and building a support system. Leya Tanit acknowledged Pornhub's ongoing support for Pineapple Support's work. Tanit highlighted that navigating life as a performer on the autism spectrum can present unique challenges that are difficult to manage alone. Tanit also noted the limited access to stigma-free and sex-positive support for autistic performers, underscoring the importance of creating a safe and inclusive experience to celebrate achievements, foster connections, and set the stage for validation and professional growth. Sessions for this group lasted around one hour and took place online each Tuesday at the same time.
