from www.sfgate.com – A stunningly unchanged example of 1960′s space ranch, 3980 Wood Ave. is more than just a unique Miami property. It’s also historic: it’s the place where many scenes from the 1972 cult classic Deep Throat were filmed.
Famous for being one of the first American porn movies to include an actual plot, Deep Throat captured the world’s attention with its hot actress (Linda Lovelace), its high production value, and the myriad controveries and rumors the film stirred up around the globe. Its title too was a double (if not triple) entendre in that period of history: “Deep Throat” was the pseudonym of journalist Bob Woodward’s secret informant who gave evidence against President Richard Nixon’s administration in the Watergate scandal. This pseudonym was ready made for a porn, a fact that did not escape its producers.
The story-line includes more than one location, but several scenes shot inside a house took place right here.
If you’ve seen the movie, you may recognize some of the interiors, as they seem virtually unaltered. This property, aside from the kitsch factor, offers over 5,000 square feet a large, jungle-like lot. The main house has 4 beds and 4 baths, and there are additional guesthouses scattered about, all decorated with religious attention to the 70s aesthetic. There’s also (of course), a pool and hot tub, huge fireplace with half circle couches facing it, and a generous kitchen resplendent in ocher, green, and orange.
If the weird/cool factor doesn’t resonate with you, you’re not alone. Florida area buyers haven’t been exactly ecstatic either; after several price reductions, the home now lists at 1.75 million, the value of which is largely based on the land alone, .62 acres of Coconut Grove lush privacy.
Perhaps bored with this odd property after more than 180 days on the market, the listing agent suggests you enhance “or demolish” the existing structures to “raise its value.” Here’s hoping you throw a really swinging party first.
