Porn Performer’s Stepmom Breaks Silence

California- The stepmother of a California man whose broken and fractured body was found alongside the body of a local war hero in a Canadian rock quarry last year broke her silence Wednesday about her son’s untimely death and the upcoming release of a pornographic film staring both dead men.

Tawni Wright, of Santa Rosa, Calif., said she and her husband Frank Wright have tried to grieve for their son in peace away from the spotlight but the recent decision to release the film made by Wright’s biological mother Cheryl Crockett and his modeling agent have forced the family to come forward.

“This is so emotional and we are so upset,” Wright said Wednesday. “We raised Steven since he was 3 years old. He was my son. We were always there for him.”

Steven Wright, 20, [pictured left] of Guernville, Calif., was found along with the body of Uniontown’s Mark Kraynak, 23, Sept. 1, 2005, at the bottom of a rock quarry behind the Red Lite After Hours Discotheque, in the city of Laval.

A 10-day search ensued following the men’s disappearance in late August. Investigators were able to trace a cell phone transmitter from Kraynak’s phone to near the Red Lite, where the bodies were found at the bottom of a rock ledge.

Authorities initially concluded that the men were likely running from their $40 cab fare when they fell to their deaths in the quarry.

Then in January, chief investigator Guy Lajeunesse said that the case was “almost over” and that there was “no doubt” that the incident was an accident, but investigators have yet to produce a single witness to the incident in what was allegedly a “nighttime hotspot” and despite announcements that the search for the cab driver had narrowed, have yet to find the driver.

Wright said Wednesday that she is disappointed in the Laval Police investigation into the deaths, noting that the “fare cheat” theory was floated too soon and skewed further investigation.

Steven Wright and Kraynak were supposed to return to the United States the day they went missing, after spending a few months in Toronto working for French Connection Francaise (FCF), a pornography recruiting company based in California.

Company owner Stephan Sirard was accompanying both men in Montreal at the time of the incident.

After months of public debate regarding the suspicious deaths, Sirard announced his plans to sell a previously unreleased film featuring the two men March 1, despite an outcry of protest from Kraynak’s mother.

“There are questions morally and ethically, but legally, they can’t stop us,” Sirard said in a Tuesday interview.

Sirard said all proceeds from the film are to benefit the biological mother of Wright, Cheryl Crockett.

“I was so upset by this,” Janice Kraynak, Mark’s mother, said Friday. “The fact that Cheryl is willing to exploit her dead son for profit, it makes me sick. I cannot stress how mad I am. She is just a business partner. She just sees dollar signs, and I just want answers.”

Tuesday, Sirard responded.

“She can’t get it through her head. She says this was a murder, but I know in my heart it was an accident. I know I am not involved,” Sirard said.

Now, Wright has fired back.

“We are in contact with Janice and we are sticking together. Now Stephan is refusing to return our calls and this has got to stop. I know that Cheryl loves Steven,” Wright said, fighting back tears. “I know that, but this is not right. And I can’t stand Sirard. I just can’t believe he is doing this.”

According to Sirard, Crockett is the mother of two daughters, ages 7 and 8, and is currently struggling to survive as a single parent, after her recent divorce, on a fixed income. Sirard said she receives disability compensation.

Sirard and Crockett are also bringing two cases before the Superior Court of Quebec, claiming that Montreal Police were negligent in some of the investigation into the incident and that the rock quarry where the men’s bodies were found was at fault for not posting the dangerous drop-off in English.

Sirard said FCF is footing the bill for the suits but that the possible awards to Crockett are not enough to sustain the mother of two.

“She had to sell her house because Steven had helped her make her rent payments and now he isn’t here to help,” Sirard said. “She needs to be able to survive. So I thought, why don’t we release the footage?”

But Wright said Sirard is mistakenly representing Crockett’s situation.

“Cheryl never raised any of her children,’ Wright said. “The courts ruled her unfit. She doesn’t have custody of her two kids. They don’t live with her.”

She said the two children referred to by Sirard live with their father Bob Davis and also added that despite what Sirard has announced about Crockett’s recent divorce, she has never been married.

Wright said Steven’s real family, his father Frank, herself; his 13-year-old brother Jonathan and sister Shelby are suffering not only his loss but also now the attempt to exploit his death for financial gain.

Sirard said the film, “Let’s Get it On,” was shot over the summer of 2005, while Kraynak and Wright were dancing at a Toronto strip club called Remington’s.

“They were dancing in the club and doing one scene a month,” Sirard said, noting the film features three scenes with Kraynak and three scenes with Wright.

“See, Steven loved what he was doing and he would have wanted this,” Sirard said of the film’s release. “We are going to create a college fund for the kids and my agency will not make a penny. My accounting books are open for review.”

“We tried for so long to let her be a part of Steven’s life,” Wright said. “When he grew up he wanted to be a part of her life too. He lived with Cheryl on and off as a teenager, but when he needed a mother he came to me.”

But despite Sirard’s forthrightness regarding his accounts, his decision to release the film seemingly conflicts with earlier statements made by the porn recruiter.

“We are not making money off her son,” Sirard said in a January interview. “I have no control of material released or sold prior to his death. The money we have made was when he was still alive.”

Sirard also said lat month that he was not displaying any new material following Mark’s death.

“The three of us are going to move forward and stick together,” Wright said, noting the group will explore all avenues to stop the film’s release. “A real mother does not do this. It is exploitation. His room is still empty here and his brother and sister know he isn’t coming back. But they are already moving ahead with this.”

Wright said she and her husband, own and operate a successful painting and construction business, one that they had hoped Steven would one day join, but said they weren’t surprised by the life he was leading at the time of his death.

“He was a teenager who didn’t always like rules and our house had rules. Here was this adventurous job. It didn’t surprise me that he worked there but it did horrify me a little. That is the difference between Cheryl and I. Cheryl was Steven’s friend. I was his mom.”

She declined to comment on whether she believes Sirard is involved in the men’s deaths.
