Rochester, N.Y.- from www.whec.com – Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks released an eye-opening report today on the Rochester Airport, detailing how travel and business funds have been spent.
According to the report from 2007 to 2008 nearly $4,000 were spent at strip clubs in New York City.
Former Airport Director Dave Damelio is accused of misusing those funds. The county says it has recovered all of that money from Damelio who resigned from his position on January 3.
Damelio is also accused of misusing approximately $2,200 of airport funds at tobacco shops. He recently said the charges were business related.
“I don’t think anyone would argue that going to an adult entertainment venue with public monies is well beyond poor judgment. It’s inappropriate for any county employee. It’s unacceptable. It’s a misuse of public monies.”
The airport authority is kind of quasi-public. It involves public employees, the airport is a public building but the authority gets its money from private airlines. However, Brooks says the bottom line is that it’s perceived as public and so that’s the way she treats it.
