MIAMI BEACH, Fla. from www.wsvn.com – — School officials are making sure a high school senior prom runs smoothly while it shares the same venue as a porn convention.

Students from Miami Beach Senior High School are set to have their senior prom Saturday night at the Miami Beach Convention Center, but also at the center is Exxxotica.

Exxxotica founder John Handy said the event is a celebration of love and sex. “We’ve always build it as a celebration of sexy. It’s the largest adult event in the country dedicated to love and sex,” said Handy.

Gwen Zaldivar of Miami Beach Senior High says the venue they are using was also booked by Exxxotica. “The venue that we are using, which is the Miami Beach Convention Center, was booked with another program that we are not very happy with: Exxxotica,” said Zaldivar.

School officials want parents to know that the prom and Exxxotica will be in completely different sides of the convention center. “We are completely separated from the venue. We have security, we have police officers,” said Zaldivar.

Miami Beach Police Deputy Chief Marc Overton says there will be a high surveillance Saturday night. “On the opposite side of the convention center is a complete different entrance, and in addition to that, there is going to be screening people. You have to be over 18 years old and pay a cover charge,” said Overton.

“I’m sure the kids are gonna be thrilled, but that’s not the case,” said a parent.

School officials said they booked the convention center first because of concerns of underage drinking at hotels. Both the school and Exxxotica are working things out for a smooth night for all.

The prom will take place Saturday at 8 p.m.
