Sexology Expo sues Hotel Chains

Virginia Beach – Last summer, a sex expo at two Virginia Beach hotels was cancelled under pressure. City officials felt the expo, with porn stars, adult videos and sex toys, wasn’t appropriate for the resort city. Now the organizer of the event is filing a lawsuit against those hotels, alleging breach of contract.

Eight porn stars including Nina Hartley were advertised as appearing at the Sexology Expo 2003, from May 31 – June 1. It was cancelled two days after a local news investigation brought it to the attention of city officials.

Neither Mayor Meyera Obernodorf nor the city were named as defendants in this suit.

The Quality Inn and Suites and the Clarion Hotel are being sued for $280,000. The organizer claims she “lost out of pocket expenses and profits, and was unable to … fulfill contracts with vendors, speakers, and special guests.”
