Washington, D.C.– Sony yesterday said it’s not trying to stop adult studios from releasing their titles on Blu-ray HDTV DVDs.

That’s according to an article published by Information Week.

Several porn executives have said recently that they are releasing their films on HD-DVD because Sony is preventing them from making copies on Blu-ray. HD-DVD and Blu-ray are rivals competing for the new high-def disc market.

However, Information Week says Sony spokeswoman Lisa Gephardt is denying the company is trying to stop the adult industry from using Blu-ray.

“There’s no prohibition against adult content,” Gephardt told the publication. “We don’t tell people how they can use the licenses they get from the Blu-ray Disc Association.”

In addition, the Blu-ray Disc Association, which issues licenses to use the Blu-ray format, said the BDA is “an open organization that welcomes the participation of all companies interesting and supporting the format.”

Information Week reports that some adult studios may be dubious about Sony’s position because the company has a policy against manufacturing adult DVDs or videotapes. But Gephardt says Sony’s policy will have no impact on other companies.

Despite grumbling from some porn executives, Vivid Entertainment CEO Steve Hirsch says he’s releasing Debbie Does Dallas…Again on both HD-DVD and Blu-ray in late March or early April.
