(ChattahBox) — Kenny Chesney has opened up about his past marriage to Renee Zellweger which lasted only a few months and answered rumors that came from it that he might be gay.

Chesney and Zellweger annulled their 2005 marriage just four months after they wed in the Virgin Islands.

“I didn’t have any clue as to what true marriage meant. I was so used to committing to one thing — music — and then I had to totally commit to a second thing, marriage,” he said. “I didn’t know how to commit to both of them. It was a scary moment for me.”

Chesney told Playboy in their March issue that he’s a restless spirit:

“I have friends who have a normal family, kids and a dog, and I think I would blow my brains out. It’s fine for them. But I’m such a free spirit, I feel more alive when I’ve got somewhere to go. I can stay on my boat for a few weeks if I have a guitar and a girl and a Bob Marley CD. After that, I’ve got to move around.”

When it came to the decision to cite “fraud” in their annulment, Chesney explained that it was due to a legal technicality.

“I talked to my attorney and her attorney. In order for us to get an annulment, the legal papers could claim either physical abuse, which wasn’t true, or three or four other things that also weren’t true,” he said. “The best thing we could put in there was fraud. So I said, ‘All right, do it. Whatever.’”

But the “fraud” decision has plagued the singer with speculation that he might be gay.

“That is the most unbelievable thing in the world. ‘Because Renee cited fraud, Kenny’s got to be gay.’ What guy who loves girls wouldn’t be angry about that s—?” Chesney said. “I didn’t sign up for that. I think people need to live their lives the way they want to, but I’m pretty confident in the fact that I love girls. I’ve got a long line of girls who could testify that I am not gay.”

According to the country singer, he’s been with more then a 100 women.

“Man, I was over 100 several years ago. I can’t believe I’m actually saying this on the record: That was probably back in 2001. I had a good time in college, I really did,” Chesney claimed.

“My first five years on the road were intense because I was the guy in college who never got laid until I started playing guitar,” he continued. “There were years when I had a better summer than A-Rod, buddy. You know? I got on the boards quite often. From 1993 to 1998 — those five years were a blur. We would party on the bus after every show.”
