Adult content creators are increasingly turning to clip sales as their primary source of revenue, according to a report published by market research firm SWR Data.
Shift in Revenue Streams
The report, titled "What's Behind the Rise in Clips," found that the number of creators claiming clip sales as their primary source of revenue rose 24% year-over-year, while the percentage of creators reporting fan site subscriptions as their primary source of income fell 20%. The survey polled over 550 adult creators in late 2025.
SWR Data co-founder MelRose Michaels noted that creators are "tiring of fan site hustle culture," citing social media instability and the constant need to find new fans as contributing factors. This shift is seen as a potential response to burnout, with 63% of survey respondents reporting that earning money had gotten harder in the past year.
Clip Sales on the Rise
The report highlights the growing importance of clip sales for adult content creators. According to SWR Data's survey, 18.8% of responders said clips are their most important revenue driver, fractionally behind fan site subscriptions at 19.2%. Cams and livestreams were third in the rundown, with 15.3% of responders saying they were collectively their most important revenue driver.
SWR Data's survey also found that adult content creators view OnlyFans less positively than some rival platforms, although it is still widely used for subscription income. The report suggests that sustained mistrust of OnlyFans could be contributing to the rise in clip sales.
Creator Fatigue and Platform Sentiment
The survey results indicate a growing dissatisfaction among adult content creators with the current state of the creator economy. 45% of respondents reported a decline in income, while many expressed frustration with the need to constantly find new fans and drive their own traffic on platforms like OnlyFans.
