Texas- The owner of a strip club accused in a failed plot to kill a North Texas mayor and city attorney faces trial this fall.
Ryan Walker Grant was arraigned July 25 and pleaded not guilty to federal counts of murder for hire and unlawfully transferring a firearm. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports a judge in Fort Worth has set a Sept. 24 trial date.
Prosecutors allege that Grant plotted to hire Mexican hitmen to kill Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck and a Dallas attorney representing the city after the city closed his nightclub, Flashdancer, on a nuisance complaint and then tried to stop him from reopening it. Neither of the men targeted in the plot were harmed.
Flashdance is located within two miles of Arlington’s popular entertainment district, which that includes Cowboys Stadium, Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Six Flags of Texas and the Six Flags Hurricane Harbor water park. Arlington is midway between Dallas and Fort Worth.
Grant has been jailed since his April 9 arrest in the undercover investigation.
