This Hot-toTrot Special Ed Teach Taught a Special Kind of Oral Sex

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – High school teacher Marla Gurecki-Haskins has been accused of having sex with a 17-year-old student at a small town school in western New York.

Police say the 37-year-old teacher performed oral sex on a male student in a classroom during school hours.

Police say Gurecki-Haskins also sent text messages and e-mails to two 16-year-old male students. Court papers obtained by CBS affiliate WROC say the messages “encouraged a sexual relationship.”

Gurecki-Haskins, a teacher at Canandaigua Academy since 1995, turned herself in on Monday.

She pleaded not guilty to a felony count of disseminating indecent material to a minor and three misdemeanor counts of official misconduct and endangering the welfare of a child. Officials say more charges could be filed.

from — The investigation into a veteran Canandaigua Academy teacher accused of engaging in a sex act with a male student is far from over.

On Monday, Canandaigua police announced that Marla Gurecki-Haskins, 37, of 5731 Running Brook Road, Farmington, had been charged with disseminating indecent materials, a felony, and misdemeanors of official misconduct and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Gurecki-Haskins, a teacher at the school since 1995, is accused of engaging in a sex act with a 17-year-old boy in the school during regular class hours, sending a 16-year-old boy text messages inviting him to have sex with her, and sending text messages and e-mails to two 16-year-old boys inviting them to have sex with her, according to Canandaigua Police Chief Jon Welch.

According to the staff directory on the school district’s website, Gurecki-Haskins is a special education teacher.

Welch said the investigation has been tedious because it involves sifting through more than 2,500 documents in the form of text messages and e-mails. He said the investigation, which might take another two months, could lead to additional charges.

“There are some things I still can’t reveal that might jeopardize the investigation,” Welch said.

All the incidents involving the three male victims occurred in April, Welch said. Canandaigua City School District officials contacted the police April13. Gurecki-Haskins has been on paid leave since then.

Gurecki-Haskins, who turned herself in, was arraigned in Canandaigua City Court Monday and is free on her own recognizance. She pleaded not guilty and is represented by lawyer John Parrinello, Welch said.

Welch said Gurecki-Haskins refused to be interviewed by police investigators.

According to a statement issued Monday: “The District is reviewing its legal obligations and rights regarding Ms. Haskins’ employment with its attorney.”

“To protect the integrity of the investigation, the District cannot provide further comment at this time but will do so, as appropriate, as the investigation progresses.”
