Porn Valley- From the AdultFYI Files: I came across a very interesting chat I had with Jim Holliday years ago. I won’t shit you. Part of the tape got damaged but the stuff that remains makes for interesting reading. Holliday called me when I was still with Extreme Associates, and Holliday had the idea that he wanted XRCO to go head-to-head with AVN’s award show on the same night in Las Vegas.
And get this. Holliday tinkered with the notion of having the XRCO show brokered by Extreme Associates. And, if so, it had to be a well executed plan of attack, according to Holliday which would have eliminated Rob Black in my book.
Holliday, whom I had seen the day previous at a World Modeling talent call, left word with the receptionist that “The Golden Ghost” was waiting to speak with me. I told him that it was conveyed to me that the The Galloping Ghost was on Line One.
“She’s an idiot,” says Holliday of the receptionist, noting that Jim South called him The Golden Ghost. Holliday said he wanted to run something by me- the idea of setting up the XRCO awards show in Vegas for the year 2004.
“I have no idea what the XRCO Show is doing nor do I at this point particularly care,” Holliday says to me saying that Rob Black would be an interesting middle man in the deal to “bring the industry back to what it is.”
“Head to head,” says Holliday. “Same time. Different location. Las Vegas. A show. The goal is real simple. You can’t win with the companies and the fat cats. You can win with talent.” Holliday was always of the opinion that AVN treated talent in the industry like second class citizens, and its recent edict to only allow working talent of the last year access to the award’s show freebies is along those lines.
“So they [AVN] have their little contract person show and all the kids are elsewhere. That’s an intriguing hypothesis,” he goes on to state. Holliday then tells me that Bill Margold held a similar notion to do such a show.
“The problem was Margold for years was the main proponent, and he was right in spirit but wrong in attitude and execution,” Holliday says.
“Connelly wanted to do it in the worst way. Now he’s just old and doesn’t care. This would not be one up. It would be what’s best for the industry. Right now the trade magazine does not reflect this industry one helluva bit.”
Holliday goes on to make comparisons between AVN and XRCO, noting, “I’m convinced that neither AVN nor XRCO know what they’re doing when it comes to Starlet of the Year. That was the one award I can always vote for.” Holliday who always managed to change subjects in mid sentence then criticized AVN’s list of the Top 50 porn stars. Tera Patrick was evidently on the list.
“Tera Patrick in the top 50? Another joke,” says Holliday. “I don’t even understand other than the VCA machine or some severe bent of some editorial people like Bryn Pryor, but Chloe?”
Holliday then goes on to bring up Jill Kelly, stating that his list would have ranked Kelly much lower than AVN’s. It was also Holliday’s contention that Kelly had been dating a friend of Paul Fishbein’s then wife Kimberly Wilson.
“She [Kelly] was dating some guy, stringing him along,” says Holliday.
“His name was Brook or Bent or some shit. He went to the Caribbean with her and she wouldn’t fuck him. He flew over to France and she wouldn’t fuck him. Apparently this is a guy that is a friend of Kimberly’s and I forget all this goofy drama that gets into shit any more. I don’t know whether this is Paul’s friend or Kimberly’s friend but I know that Kimberly does not like Jill.”
“I have one card,” says Holliday getting back to the subject of the show. “I have integrity and a reputation. I’ve got to play that card with the fellows that would do that right. Every now and then you have to shake the hornet’s nest.”
