To have a chat with the late Jim Holliday was always a deft attempt at avoiding the inevitable: which would be a steering of the topic toward adult industry trivia - a web Holliday would masterfully weave in conversational situations.
Being the walking encyclopedia of the business that he was, any attempt to one-up Holliday on matters relating to the history of the hardcore industry was to risk embarrassment and humiliation. And he knew it. Me, I knew just enough to hold my own with him, but I wouldn’t try to match wits with Holliday if push ever came to shove.
“Do you know who I am?” Holliday would generally ask any aspiring XXX ingénue. If she didn’t, she’d get a lecture.
To that degree, Holliday was a riot. So is comic Zach Galifianakis, particularly in the movie The Hangover, which could have been titled with the adult business in mind.
And so it is with great respect and humility that we award Galifianakis with the He Looks More Like Jim Holliday Than Jim Holliday award.
Chances are slim-to-none that the mainstream movie business would ever consider a film about Holliday, enigma that he was. But if by chance, if by remote chance that would ever happen, who else but Galifianakis? C’mon, who else?
