Dallas attorney Evan Stone with his procedural gaffes has been the biggest embarrassment so far, and there was one attorney who wasn’t even licensed to practice, but the big move in the last couple of years is attorneys representing porn companies shaking down the little guy. The issue is over illegal downloading of porn.

There was one case in which lawyers for Patrick Collins at Elegant Angel tried to file a lawsuit against a blind woman. You’ll find cases like this all over the country where a computer user will receive a notice that he’s illegally downloaded a porn movie, supposedly, and has a quick option out: pay up before his neighbors are alerted. A lot of these people get panicky and pay. It’s pure blackmail and shakedown.

But a rational judge in California, Otis Wright, saw this practice for what it is and ordered sanctions against John Steele and his Prenda Law group. So far Steele has been carrying out evasive tactics in paying up but Wright went a little more gonzo and is ordering daily sanctions. www.adultfyi.com/read.php?ID=58728

I notice that XBiz did an article basically defending Steele and I’m wondering where XBiz all of a sudden got its fuck-you attitude to everybody. But there it was, an interview with Steele.

My one question to Steele would be this. Why are you going after these little people downloading porn when it’s been Manwin who’s uploading pirated content to all its tube sites? XBiz didn’t ask Steele that question.

Oh I’m sure there’s a complicated answer designed to muddle the issue. But to me it’s quite simple. Manwin has destroyed the porn business, but even zealots like Steele are looking the other way. And you got to ask yourself why.
