A two and a half million dollar lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court Friday claims “The People Vs Larry Flynt” star Woody Harrelson assaulted a paparazzo in 2006, breaking the man’s camera and ordering his bodyguard to attack the photographer.
The suit, filed by TMZ videographer Josh Levine, says the incident took place in June 2006 near LA’s Hollywood Boulevard and Las Palmas Avenue. After apparently getting too close for the 46 year-old actor’s comfort, Harrelson allegedly choked Levine before thrusting the video camera into his ribs.
Also suing Harrelson’s bodyguard, Levine claims to still suffer from mental, physical and emotional pain following the 2 year-old encounter.
An outspoken peace activist, passionate in his condemnation of America’s involvement in Iraq, Harrelson is also known as an afiecienado of marijuana, perhaps the world’s best known alternative for violent behavior.
Arrested on June 1st 2006 in Kentucky after planting four hemp seeds to challenge the state’s Cannabis laws, Harrelson is also known as a devout vegan, animal rights supporter and pacifist eco-warrior, once scaling San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge to unfurl a banner in favor of preserving ancient Redwoods.
Harrelson was also the proprietor of West Hollywood oxygen bar “O2”, offering a health-friendly social alternative to conventional bars serving alcohol – which among other things can often be the cause of violent confrontations.
Having been reportedly caught on tape attacking Levine, however, we may soon be catching a glimpse of Harrelson’s darker side.
