Trial in Progress: “Porn industry worker” denies assault at Kingston nightclub

from www.surreycomet.co.uk – A woman who claimed she worked in the porn industry punched, kicked, spat at and racially abused bouncers at a Kingston nightclub after they ejected her for drunkenly flashing her breasts, a court has heard.

Karen Bridle [pictured], 30, denies assaulting the manager of Amagi nightclub and racially abusing a bouncer, before sinking her teeth into another doorman’s hand in the early hours of April 25 last year.

The manager of the riverside club, Will Palmer, said he thought Ms Bridle, who was there with her friend, a dancer promoting the evening, had calmed down after he retrieved her coat from the cloakroom.

But she then pulled over the VIP rope barrier in frustration at being thrown out sometime after midnight, he told Kingston Crown Court on Tuesday.

He said in their original argument she claimed she worked in the porn industry and that he initially calmed her down by giving her his email address, so she could make a formal complaint.

But moments later, she punched him in the head, he told the court.

CCTV evidence shown to the jury appeared to show her pull her coat on before landing a punch on Mr Palmer.

He said: “She went from being irate to, when I dealt with her, being very calm. I said if she felt aggrieved by the situation she should contact me by email.

“As far as I was aware the situation was dealt with. I headed back in and was talking to reception when I heard a clattering of metal outside.

“I walked straight out when I heard it and Miss Bridle was holding one of the ropes in her hand and the rest of the ropes and stanchions were on the pavement.

“I said to her if she didn’t move away from my premises in two minutes I would have her arrested, or the words I used in my statement, ‘nicked’.

“I then started dealing with the queue of people which had priority over the other side.

“I turned and was struck on my right cheek by Miss Bridle with a closed fist, so a punch.”

Asked if he remembered anything else he said: “She mentioned how she was in the porn industry. That was fairly much it.”

And asked about the email address he pointed at a blonde woman on the CCTV footage and said: “Unless you’re inferring anything else, my girlfriend of four-and-a-half years is standing on the other side of the rope for the whole conversation.”

As door staff grabbed her by the wrists and held her under CCTV cameras waiting for police to arrest her, she bit bouncer Jake Heyman’s hand, he told the court.

Mr Heyman said when she was causing trouble after being ejected he went up to her and said: “Just calm down and have some dignity. The camera’s on you.

“The whole time she was just shouting obscenities.”

But after the punch, he and another bouncer followed their training and performed a “citizen’s arrest”, holding her wrists and moving her away from the queue to the wall near next-door Gourmet Burger Kitchen, where town centre CCTV was trained.

He said: “She bit me. She literally sunk her teeth into my hand. She kicked me, she kicked my colleague Graham Archer and started spitting as well.”

Jurors were shown photos of the damage to his left hand, which led to injections at hospital.

Fellow bouncer Graham Archer denied suggestions by her defence QC, Venky Krishnan, that he was disproportional in his response and that he had fabricated claims of three kicks by the 4ft 10in woman to his groin, the spitting and the racial abuse.

Mr Krishnan said: “We’re not talking about Rambo here running through Kingston in a nightclub, not a six foot tall musclebound superhero.”

But Mr Archer replied: “Yes, you’re right, but when you are restraining people you do it with two people to stop allegations of sexual assault and everything is done in front of the camera.”

Ms Bridle, who gave a home address in Birmingham, is expected to take the stand in her own defence this afternoon (Wednesday) after the prosecution finishes outlining its case.

The trial continues.
