from www.insidermedia.com – Croydon gentlemen’s club Larry Flynt’s Hustler Club has been ordered to withdraw an advertisement that was “degrading to women” and could cause “serious offence”.

The advert, in the Croydon Guardian, showed a woman bending over provocatively and draped in an American flag, which was raised to reveal her naked bottom. The text read: “Come see our Hustler honeys… getting all wet and splashed about.”

A member of the public complained to the Advertising Standards Authority that the ad was offensive but Chorleywood-based WDV Talent Agency London, trading as the Hustler Club, denied this, saying it was neither sexually explicit nor provocative and the flag draped over the woman maintained “decency and decorum”.

The ASA upheld the complaint but a further complaint, that the ad was unsuitable to appear in a publication that children might see, was not upheld since children were unlikely to read the arts section of the newspaper.
