It used to be said, you want a hero? Get a Stallone movie. But that was a long time ago and now the action film genre gleans from the UFC ranks in search of its latest pin up boy. The question is will it embrace the rugged, cement truck looks of Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic much less be able to spell his name?
Think of the Drago character in Rocky IV with a smirking Michael Pataki pronouncing in a Russian accent, “Whatever he heets, he deestroyz!” Or Mickey warning Rocky Balboa about the might of Clubber Lang, “He’s a human wrecking machine!”
The character “Cro Cop” plays in Ultimate Force [from Bryanston Distributing, Arrow Productions’ www.xxxdeepthroat.com, mainstream arm]

Cast more in the Jason Statham five o’clock shadow with a six o’clock attitude mode, Cro Cop’s character, a hit man, is known as “Sphinx”. He lives stoically by the philosophy, “There is no greater force than destruction” and carries out his assignments with the stone face of an Egyptian monument.
For reasons known only to his inner child, he falters in his latest assignment to take out some political figure and everyone around him. Sphinx has got no inner anxieties about destruction when it comes to knocking off the politico and his bodyguards. But he gets weak kneed to ice the guy’s daughter. Must be the dot in the middle of her head or something. When Sphinx allows her to live, his organization, feels he’s lost his edge and killer instincts. And so he’s targeted for re-programming.
With a cast of characters in this Eastern European film spewed off the tough mug assembly line, Sphinx is thrust into a Kafkaesque situation where he must kill to survive. And on the island where he’s cast off, after he’s left a number of dead bodies in his wake, Sphinx finds his incarcerated girlfriend. Then, like the old cliche, Sphinx is further enveloped in a net of duplicity and intrigue with the only way out being to go against “The Director” of his organization.
Sphinx is a guy you seriously don’t want to fuck with, and the movie, very well lensed, including a torture sequence as deviant as those found in the first Lethal Weapon, Rambo 2 and Casino Royale, should fulfill the needs of any pyrotechnic/action film junkie.
