Update: Pink Visual gears up to battle online porn piracy with Degban.com; Lawsuits Coming

from www.creativeloafing.com – Adult entertainment studio Pink Visual announced in a press release this week their plans to launch an anti-piracy campaign in 2011 with the hope that other companies will join in the battle against the online piracy that is devastating the adult industry.

The company’s approach will be manifold. In addition to reminding its customers of the potential consequences for illegally sharing copyrighted content, the Pink Visual is also restricting downloadable content to long-term members and blocking the use of mass download managers.

To increase its efforts to have pirated content removed from third-party websites, Pink Visual has employed Degban.com which scans over 100,000 sites hourly to collect evidence of infringement and issue removal requests.

This is in addition to being part of the Free Speech Coalition’s Anti-Piracy Action Program, which tracks Pink Visual’s content across more than 20 major tube sites and automatically removes or truncates the videos.

While Pink Visual has declined to take part in lawsuits against individual viewers of pirated porn, president of Pink Visual, Allison Vivas [pictured], affirmed that the company is “actively preparing litigation against several tube and torrent site operators.” These cases will be filed in the coming weeks along with several similar lawsuits by other porn companies.

In addition to collecting damages, a major component of this legal actions is to require site operators to use digital fingerprint filtering technology to prevent future violations. Tube sites can minimize their risk of being targeted for legal action if they voluntarily implementation this filtering software.

While lawsuits are a key component of Pink Visual’s anti-piracy strategy, they will also utilize new distribution methods.

“We are planning to roll out a new content delivery method and new price structure that we feel will appeal more to end-users who place a high premium on affordability, accessibility, convenience and privacy,” Vivas said.

While the company has high hopes for its anti-piracy campaign, they don’t expect the problem to go away overnight. In order for the campaign to have a large scale impact, other porn giants must jump on board and start implementing their own aggressive anti-piracy campaigns. The problem is that these programs take a considerable amount of money, which many of the adult giants don’t have in abundance at the moment.
