Los Angeles- Not surprisingly, Vance Winter isn’t the real name of Channel One’s most recent addition to the porn studio’s roster of exclusives, but, the name does have some cache: Winter, from New Hampshire, got his start in porn from some auspicious summer activities in Ogunquit, Maine.

“I thought it was kinda cool,” says the 22-year old who’s already somewhat of a veteran in the business. “I originally had another name, but I settled on ‘Winter’ because I figured I’m the only person in Los Angeles who can actually identify with it.”

Channel One Releasing, Chi Chi LaRue’s outfit that now proclaims to be the largest gay adult entertainment company in the world, is trumpeting Winter, who had a number of stints on on-line sites and who made a few videos with his exclusive boyfriend, Turk Mason, as the next big thing.
Coming up for Winter are the tellingly titled film “He F**ked My Father” and the more ambiguous “Measuring Up” — although, the content can be safely assumed.
Winter made a couple films for LaRue when he was 19 and before deciding to work exclusively with Mason, but, after the couple’s break-up last year, Winter felt that the timing for a return to the studio was ripe.
“I was in San Francisco after the break-up, and decided to get back to Los Angeles, but I didn’t really know if they’d use me. Well, I made some calls and got three calls back. When I answered the phone the third time, there was silence for about one minute,” Winter recalls. “Then the person said ‘you sexy bitch, this is Chi Chi and we’re in love’. He cast me in two films immediately.”
While growing up in New Hampshire, Winter always knew that he wanted to be a porn star. He says that he must have been 11 or 12 when he saw his first issue of “Hustler” magazine, and that’s when he decided on his career.
“Most guys wanted to be police or teachers,” says Winter, who grew up just outside Hampton Beach. “But I pretty much knew at a really early age.”
Winter remained a normal kid for a few years, but it was his days of long boarding in Ogunquit that eventually brought him closer to realizing his dream. Looking for information about surfing on-line, Winter stumbled upon www.boyride.com — it wasn’t exactly an Internet accessory shop.
“At that point, I was like, ‘what the hell?’ So I sent them a few photos, and they called me back the next day,” says Winter. “So I flew out to California, and I met Turk the first day. A bunch of us decided to move to L.A.”
Winter flew back to the Granite State, packed up or sold everything he owned, and headed back to California.
Since, he hasn’t turned back … nor does he intend to. In fact, Winter is planning for a long career in the adult film industry.
“I really think I’m going to be the gay Jenna Jameson. I want to take over, and I think I have the staying power to do it. It’s all about playing it smart and safe,” says Winter, who admits to treating his body as a temple and not imbibing in anything that will slow his career. And, he says, he’s keeping an eye on industry trends.
“Everything will be Internet based in the next seven years, so if people are still doing DVDs, they will be dead in the water,” says Winter. “By then, I want to be behind the camera. I think I’ll adapt just fine.”
These days Winter gets back to New Hampshire from time to time for holidays … and, yes, his parents know what he’s doing in California. They even coolly accept it, says Winter.
“I told my mom, and I obviously got a negative response, but it was more like, ‘well, if it’s because you need the money.’ but I had to explain that it’s not because I need the money, it’s because this is my dream job,” says Winter. “When people tell me I can do so much better, I’m actually very insulted. This is my dream job!” //
