CAMDEN, N.J. – from www.myfoxphilly.com – A small business owner from Bellmawr, New Jersey is getting a lot of attention. She’s running on the Republican ticket and is hoping her experience of selling sex toys will win her a seat in the State Assembly.
Stepfanie Velez-Gentry is a 29-year-old married mother of two.
“I’m a coupon clipping mom. I’m a soccer mom,” Velez-Gentry tells Fox 29.
She spends her days with the kids and her nights hosting “Nookie Parties,” where she sells sex toys to women and couples.
“I love my job,” says Velez-Gentry. “I wake up every morning with a smile on my face. I make people happy for a living and you know, it’s the gift that keeps on giving.”
She started the business two years ago as a way to support her family and isn’t shy about it on the campaign trail. Her husband is a printer and fears he might lose his job.
“It’s a rocky market and sex sells. It’s one of the number-one selling industries so we decided to go this route with the market. And like I said, it was one of the smartest things we did.”
Velez-Gentry is a Republican who often discusses politics at “Nookie Parties.” She’s running in the 5th District for a seat in the New Jersey State Assembly which represents Camden and the surrounding suburbs.
“I’m with women, with voters. I hear what people have to say about taxes, about problems with the school districts,” says Velez-Gentry.
She wants to solve some of issues says she’s been given the go-ahead from the Republican party. “The Bible doesn’t say I can’t do this for a living. If I was a man, it would be a completely different story.”
Velez-Gentry may be one of the few Republicans to get noticed in this Democratic stronghold. The Republican Committee Chair says she’s a great candidate and he applauds her entrepreneurial spirit, reported Fox 29’s Robin Taylor.
