from www.online.wsj.com – A woman accused of pimping for the Gambino crime family has been sentenced to nine months of house arrest.
Suzanne Porcelli apologized to the court Friday before a Manhattan judge decided her fate.
The 40-year-old Porcelli was among 14 suspects arrested last year on charges they ran a prostitution ring for the mob that served players at high-stakes poker games and other customers.
Federal authorities said the suspects recruited prostitutes from strip clubs. One was just 15.
Prosecutors had sought up to two years in prison for Porcelli. They said she made more than 100 phone calls a day to set up appointments.
The defense argued she deserved leniency because of mental scars. Her husband’s dismembered body was discovered dumped in marina in 1993.
