Q: You broke into the industry by making the cast for a Playboy TV reality show, is that correct?

A: Yeah, that’s pretty much how it happened. I used to be in pharmaceutical sales and I lost my job there. I was working as a bartender and dancing and stuff. Playboy TV was casting in San Francisco and I was like, “What the heck? I’ll try out.” And I made it. The reality show was called Foursome – basically, they put two guys and two girls in a house together. The goal is that they want everybody to hook up. In the interim they do activities and stuff. One of the activities they did is they took us to Kink.com, which is in San Francisco, and I was hogtied – and the rest is history. (Laughs)

Q: How long have you been in the adult business?

A: It’s been about a year and a half. However, since September 2010 I have been working with a new agency and getting more into it. Before that I was still living in San Francisco and I wasn’t really sure this was the path I wanted to go down. But since then I have decided that this is what I really want to do and I’m now making all the effort to be as successful as I can. I’m living in L.A. part-time and San Francisco part-time and I’m able to get more work.

Q: You mentioned your work with Kink.com. Can you tell us about some of the other films you have appeared in?

A: I’ve worked with most of the mainstream companies: Brazzers, Bang Bros – I just did a movie with Adam & Eve yesterday – Naughty America and some of the smaller sites. But I’ve worked with quite a few companies. I’ve done about 35-40 films now.

Q: Do you enjoy being an adult film performer?

A: Yeah, totally – I definitely think I’m meant to be a performer. (Laughs) I’m very outgoing and social. I’m a confident person. It’s really fun. It’s unfortunate that a lot of people outside the business don’t really understand what the industry is like. I think a lot of people believe it is some dirty, weird thing where you’re in a basement with some Joe off the street or something. (Laughs)

Q: Yeah. (Laughs)

A: I’ve been in a lot of other professions in my life that were professional, and (the porn industry) is just as professional, if not more. The people who are directing and paying us, they have to be professional or we won’t come back.

Q: That’s true.

A: It’s so fun and all the people I’ve met in the industry have been awesome. They’re really good people. So it’s unfortunate that many people are so judgmental. I think that’s been the hardest part for me: I really love what I do, but then there are so many people who are so mean out there and it makes you feel so bad. That’s the hard part.

Q: It is a shame. I think the general public’s perception of porn may be improving a little here in 2011, but I suppose there will always be a stigma.

A: Yeah, but then those same people who are (judging) are the reason it is such a profitable industry – because everybody watches it. (Laughs) There wouldn’t be so many porn stars if it wasn’t so awesome! (Laughs)

Q: That’s right – or people purchasing it. (Laughs)

A: Right – so it’s kind of weird.

Q: What are your long-term aspirations in the adult industry?

A: I just turned 30 in December, so I don’t know if I’m too old to get a contract, but I would love to have a contract and work with a company where I can just do kind of the same films. I’ve done a lot of different types of scenes. I do anal, I do all that, and it would be nice to have a contract. Obviously, that’s always the main goal. (Laughs) But I’d really like to be in a bigger movie. Nowadays they’re doing all of those parodies. That would be fun, I’d really like to work on one of those.

Q: I’m trying to be better with whole social networking thing, so that’s my goal for 2011: To get in touch with my fans. I feel like such an ancient person saying, “I just started using Twitter,” but its true because I’ve never been good with the whole social networking stuff. So I’m really working on that. It’s amazing how many people want to follow me or are my fans. It’s actually really humbling and nice, and I like it. So my goal is to become more in touch with my fans and get my name out there more and go to events so I can meet people and they can meet me too.

A: Nice. Yes, social networking has become a very important part of marketing oneself in 2011.

Q: I’m good at using a computer, but I guess I’ve just never been one to wake up and type, “Oh, I’m doing this, that and the other today.” (Laughs) I’m a private person. But I realize that if you want to be in this business … and it’s fine – it’s just that I’m so used to not telling everyone what I’m doing that I sort of forget to Tweet sometimes. But I’m getting better. (Laughs)

Q: That’s understandable. Personally, I didn’t even have a Twitter account until I started writing about the adult industry. (Laughs)

A: And it’s cool. The only thing I don’t like about the social network thing is – and it hasn’t happened to me as much as I’ve seen it happen to other people, but it has happened to me a couple of times – is some people that sit behind their computer and they just want to be mean and put you down, so they post things that are negative. But they would probably in a million years never say that to my face, right?

Q: (Laughs) No, they wouldn’t.

A: That’s the only thing I don’t like about (social networking): The ones that will sit there and argue with you and go back and forth. I just try to stay sweet, nice and not be in anyone else’s business. And most of the time people respect me the same way. I don’t fight back with people when they say something mean and usually they stop, because people that do that want a reaction. And they’ll just move on to the next one at will. (Laughs)

Q: Are there any studios or performers you specifically wish to work with in the near future?

A: I would definitely like to work with Vivid because I haven’t worked with them yet. And I’d like to work with Digital Playground because they do more of the higher-end movies.

I’m getting up there, I think. The more events I go to, the more people I meet and the more things I do I’m learning to know who to ask for, what kind of questions to ask and how to even get up there. Sometimes it’s just knowing somebody who can give a recommendation.

Just learning about other people in the industry is what I’ve been doing this year. Before I didn’t really know a lot of stuff. I would know about the person I was going to be doing a film with because I got the info a week before, so I researched them. But other than that I don’t really know a lot about different people, so I’ve been learning about that. But I’d definitely like to work for (Digital Playground).

Q: Yes, they are a great studio and very professional.

A: I’ve known girls who have been on their sets and it seems like there can be long days, but it seems like fun. It’s more like a real movie production that can go for a couple days and there’s like long days and nights. I probably wouldn’t want to do that every day, but it would be fun to do a few times.

Q: What are some of your interests and hobbies outside of work?

A: I have two dogs that I adore. They are like my children – I don’t have any children of my own, so they are my babies. (Laughs) It’s funny, because they are the opposite – I have a German Shepherd and a Pug. I take them to the dog park and just hang out. I’m sort of a loungy girl – I like to watch my television programs and just lounge around. I work out, run – I’m active, I like to try and be healthy. I have a lot of girlfriends and I have a pretty large family, so I try and spend time with them. I’m busy a lot, so I only get a couple of days off a week, and they seem to be sporadic days – usually not two days in a row. I mostly just catch up on my laundry, E-mails, lounge around and watch movies. I love movies and going to the movies. I’m from Montana, so I’m a pretty simple chick.

Q: What are some of your favorite movies?

A: Oh, my gosh. I wrote some of these down the other day because there was something on Twitter about it.

(Laughs)

I just saw Due Date. That was a funny movie. Due Date, The Hangover, I love Pretty Woman – that’s a fave. Dirty Dancing – that’s a fave. (Laughs) I really like the movie Fight Club – that’s one I’ve seen like a million times. Even though it’s violent, it’s really cool. I just saw Inception, that was pretty cool. I like the movies that in the end you’re like, “Oh … what? What happened? Now I have to watch it again to see if I picked up on it the first time.” (Laughs) I know this is so ghetto and people are probably going to make fun of me, but I loved the movie Big Trouble in Little China. (Laughs) I think I know the words to the entire movie. That’s like all I used to watch when I was a kid growing up.

I don’t really have favorite music – I kind of like a little bit of everything.

A lot of people probably think, “Oh, you’re probably high maintenance.” But I’m actually really not. I like to wear sweat pants and I don’t really like to wear high heels – if I go out I do, if I’m dressed up to go to dinner. On my regular days off, I don’t like to wear makeup – I don’t need to put mascara on to go to the grocery store. (Laughs)

Q: I would imagine it’s actually nice to get away from those things on your days off when you don’t have to worry about them.

A: Oh, totally … well, now I realize I can’t do my own makeup in the last year and a half. (Laughs) It looks so good when (makeup artists on set) do it, I’m like “Oh, my gosh – I can’t do my own!” (Laughs)

Q: Are there any upcoming projects in the works you would like to mention?

A: I just did my first Adam & Eve film yesterday. It’s going to be called Pretty Tied Up. I have a movie in April with Jay Sin and that one is called Pretty Sloppy … 3, I believe. Girl-girl stuff. Sometimes they change the names or they don’t have the name of the film when we’re doing it, so I don’t always know what it’s going to be called. But I did Evil Angel and Elegant Angel films back-to-back for DVD, so those will be coming out in April. One is going to be an anal scene with Mike Adriano.

Q: In closing, is there anything you wish to say to fans and readers?

A: If my fans could follow me on Twitter and look for my movies that will be coming out in April. I have a lot of other stuff coming out. I’ve been working a lot lately, so just keep searching my name and there will be new and exciting things to come.

Excellent. Thanks, Skylar. I appreciate your time and all the best to you in the future.

Thank you very much. Take care.
