from www.vcvstar.com – An Oxnard science teacher who was fired after school officials discovered her roles in pornographic videos might find out this fall whether she can keep her job.

The Oxnard Elementary School District placed Stacie Halas, 32, on paid administrative leave after learning she starred in X-rated movies before she started teaching at Haydock Intermediate School.

School officials said the discovery of Halas’ past disrupted the learning environment. They want to fire her, but she remains on leave with pay.

An administrative law judge is scheduled to hear the case Oct. 22.

Gloria Allred, one of two attorneys representing Halas, called her work as a teacher “exemplary.”

“The mere fact the district objects to her former line of work does not render her unfit to teach,” Allred said. “Even a conviction, which she does not have, for certain offenses does not qualify her unfit to teach.”

Allred said Halas was unavailable for interviews.

The school board voted unanimously April 18 to fire Halas, saying her continued employment would disturb the classroom environment. Halas appealed the decision to the Office of Administrative Hearing, a quasi-judicial tribunal that handles such disputes. In a notice of defense, Halas’ other attorney, Rich Schwab, says Halas did nothing illegal and is fit to teach.

In accusation documents filed with the Office of Administrative Hearing, the school district says Halas lied about her connection to pornography and about the reason she resigned from a neighboring district. In the days after the discovery of the pornographic movies, district officials said students talked about and watched the movies on campus, and a classroom where Halas once taught was vandalized.

District Superintendent Jeff Chancer said the chatter around Halas may have subsided now but that that could change if she returned.

“I think it has probably died down,” Chancer said, but if she returned, “We would believe it would cause a significant and ongoing disruption.”

Rumors of the sex video first surfaced March 1, when three Haydock students told an assistant principal about it. The next day, students continued to talk about it and watched the video. When called by the assistant principal, Halas denied any connection to pornography, according to the accusation documents filed by the district.

School officials later discovered the video using their cellphones and saw Halas, under the name “Tiffany Six,” in a movie.

On March 5, Halas and a teachers union representative met with Assistant Superintendent Sean Goldman. Asked whether she was involved in Internet pornography, Halas said: “Not that I know of. … I live a simple and moral life,” according to the accusation.

She was placed on paid administrative leave that day.

That morning, vandalism was reported in a classroom where Halas previously taught, district officials said. Her name, pseudonym and vulgar terms were etched in the classroom window.

Later that day, an anonymous caller made a bomb threat to the school about lunchtime. Police officers found no explosives, and whether the incident was related to Halas was unclear, according to district documents.

On March 12, Halas and district officials met again for an interview, this time with Schwab and Allred. Chancer and an attorney representing the school district also attended.

During the interview, Halas admitted to appearing in 10 pornographic movies in and around 2005. She was hired by the Oxnard school district in 2009.

According to district transcripts of the interview, school officials said a pornographic-movie database showed Halas appeared in 22 adult movies between 2005 and 2007.

Halas did not deny making 22 movies but said she did not appear in any as late as 2007.

During the interview, the district asked Halas about a video that shows her acknowledging she is a teacher and saying she could get in trouble.

Halas said the video was made in 2005 and was scripted.

“I was told what to say. I was not in the teaching profession at the time,” Halas said, according to transcripts.

Halas told school officials her movies were not the reason she left her teaching positions in the Conejo Valley Unified and Simi Valley Unified school districts.

According to an email from Simi Valley Assistant Superintendent Don Gaudioso to Goldman, Halas was a Simi Valley High School science teacher in 2006-07. Halas denied being in pornographic movies when first confronted about it but later admitted it and resigned, Gaudioso wrote.

Halas taught in Conejo Valley Unified before teaching in Oxnard. The district let her go after two years. Conejo Valley Superintendent Jeff Baarstad said the district did not know about the pornographic movies while Halas was teaching but that rumors surfaced after she left.
